EARLY ACCESS: The final cut (probably) of "I ported THOUSANDS of apps to Windows 95"
🕑 Added 2024-04-09 00:04:18 +0000 UTCFinally, here it is: the finished version of the dotnet95 video! This should be the video that goes out on YouTube, assuming I don't find anything else glaringly wrong with the export.
If you've already watched the prior drafts, there's nothing majorly different about this version so no need to watch it again, though there are a lot of little changes that I think make the video better (fixed several audio issues, tightened up the overall edit/flow, added end credits, fixed compression issues, etc). This will remain Patreon-exclusive for a bit so I have a chance to put together subtitles, music and video attribution, verify the upload, etc. but should go out publicly relatively soon.
I'll be back home in a few days, at which point I'll be plunging into some bonus Patreon-exclusive videos that I'm excited to put together (technical deep dive, behind the scenes, etc), and then once the regular audience has had a chance to join and participate in the poll, I'll announce the winning project and get right to work on that! (though there seems to be a pretty clear winner already haha)
I don't think the next video will be this big production-wise, I do want to keep experimenting/having more fun with video production, but this one did start to get a little unwieldy towards the end. Expect the next one to be somewhere in-between I'd say.

This video made me get off my arse and finally subscribe your Patreon. It’s a gem, both the video and the project.

What a coincidence,I watched this video after spending most of a night trying to get Doom Legacy running on 95 with GLIDE enabled. I failed 🤣

I love the world of retrocomputing, your project is great, thank you!!! This opens the way to a world of new projects! And thank you for putting the whole thing on GitHub, in the next few days I will study it all carefully. I suggest you put a compilation guide (or even better make a more technical and detailed video for us enthusiasts)

One thing I forgot to ask, what other apps did you get to run?

Dinner didn't sit well last night so I was up at 4:00am so I thought "What can I do for the next couple of hours that's totally productive? Oh yeah, I can watch that long ass video..." I was there for every step.... Totally worth it! Great video and thank you.

Suggestion: At 50:47, use the Windows 2000/ME shutdown sound (they used the same sounds), it fits the emotion better IMHO. Maybe it's just childhood nostalgia speaking, but (at least for me) the 2000 shutdown sound just hits different than all the other Windows shutdown sounds. (Fun fact, the 2000 shutdown sounds was actually disabled by default, but me being a tinkering kid, I enabled it at some point.)

I won't rest until I can play Doom on Windows 95 😤 (I come from a universe where the Doom95 port does not exist)
