I usually associate missiles with rockets. These would be small drones (little helicopters) capable of shooting and/or self destroying. A self-destroying drone would be hard to recover, as john pointed out. And could latch itself to its target before detonating. And now that i think about it it's scaringly possible to build such a thing nowadays. So i probably should stop fantasying about it or become paranoid. 😫🤣🤣

Or... It could be a "very dangerous array" basically a swarm of drones to cover an area. Basically the aircraft at that point would be used to get the drones quickly in position so that they can auto-scan/auto-map an area. And then if it is a military operation those drones have a relatively small gun which can still be deadly at close range (nobody ever looks up or outside the window) or the self destruction mechanism to "surgically pulverize" a target. (A door or an impediment usually. For people guns are more than enough, unless you absolutely want them "deleted and unrecognizable")

That makes sense. It would have to be semi-autonomous, so the pilot only has to designate where he wants it to go, and not have to control it to get it there.
