Fun fact: To keep the Ike character authentic, Fishburne BECAME Ike Turner during the filming of this movie. Ike Turner was ON 24/7. Fishburne never broke character. As you can imagine, that made him hell to deal with on set.

Usually when someone starts using drugs or drinking it’s because they’re trying to escape some type of trauma..or to fill certain voids..this stems from their childhoods..so drugs can be used a a temporary filler or it can bring out those deep feelings that they’re trying to hide. When he met Anna Mae he was already like this..he was just good at hiding it. He love bombed her and got her comfortable and then revealed his true self..and you could tell when he didn’t care that she gave birth and was sick. That was the first sign.

I didn't think that was necessary to say this, and I hate to get preachy in the comment section, but y'all are young people, and there are some Ike apologists in these comments and it's disturbing. It wasn't until 1993 that marital r*p* (SA) was illegal in all states. That means if a man was married to a woman he did not need her consent. Think about it. Her sons as adults said they still had nightmares about hearing their mom scream in the next room. It's a shame how many men refuse to believe men are capable of such harm. It's how it is able to continue for so long. Tina was not the only woman who he SA'd either.

This woman came from the dirt, literally dirt poor. Her mother was trash. But She supported her mother when she made it big, she paid all her bills and maintained a nice lifestyle all the way until her mom passed. Tina had so much ptsd from Ike, but the American press would always ask her to talk about it and ask about the abuse. There's interviews where you can see her just spacing out and dissociating, it's chilling, I'm glad she went to Europe in the 80s that's where her solo career really blew up. She never moved back to the US.

People used to compare Ike to the devil almost. Because of how bad of a guy he was . He only really know for this movie an how bad of a guy he was . People didn't care when the man died . He had no fans. He got acknowledged for his song with Tina. This guy famous for this movie and being a domestic abuser. Worst famous story for a person of all time . Ike and Tina were so big in the 60’s and mid 70’s. Ike was an abuser and rapist but he is one of the most influential song writers of all time and of R&B. Tina definitely became bigger than him but I think his legacy of song writing will outshine her status, just will take time even with his disgusting history. Tina did have a kid with the Piano guy Spider before she had a kid with Ike. There was infidelity both ways. Probably payback after Ike would sleep around. Tina Turner was my mom’s fav artist. She would blast her music all day all every day. Tina will be missed!

Great reaction! Tina was 22 when she married Ike. He was about 30. Her first son, Craig, she had when she was 18, with the band member spider. She dated him first then when she got with ike, he adopted him. Of course some things in movies are for dramatics but for the most part, it’s relatively accurate. The Abuse was accurate. Tina described everything herself in her book as well as a documentary. Tina was there during the filming of the movie to personally coach Angela through everything.

Some of this stuff was overdramatized and some stuff nvr actually happened (the r*pie scene) but Ike was beating on her. The limo scene for sure happened irl. Also for some reason this movie didn’t show that Tina had a baby for another band mate even before she got with Ike.
