Good way to put it. The show is about Baltimore and how everything from the streets to the politicians to the schools to the police department, etc...are all interconnected. Don't look at any one person as the star of the show. Everything matters. A lot of stuff you won't catch until multiple rewatches. Most of us have watched it mad times, so we catch all the little intricate details (or most), but for first time watchers, it's easy to get lost at certain parts. They don't hold your hand, you really gotta pay attention to everything lol. No scenes are wasted.

To sorta answer your question. When avon was arrested. Mcnulty told him that he would serve his FULL previous sentence because of him being caught with guns while on parole. This is a realistic show. Folks just not magically getting out of jail. Once u finish the series. You’ll notice what the show was going for. Y’all are used to power and stuff just focusing on one person for seasons. Technically that’s not realistic. Kingpins rarely have a long reign. Even someone like John gotti only reigned for 5yrs.

If you remember Norris (defective) who caught the Braddock case went into Landsman's office (the fat guy) to tell him that the guy who got killed was a witness in a drug case. That's when Landsman told him to close the door, that's when Landsman called Valchek and told him. And then Valcheck went to Carcetti's office and told him, and Carcetti brought it up in the debate. That's why Royce (the mayor) looked flustered after Carcetti brought it up, and his team was stressed, because Royce had no clue about another witness being killed. Which makes the city look bad under his watch.

Facts. Shit is annoying. It's one thing if there's a scene they misinterpret and it's not further explained, so you kinda help them understand what they saw. It's another to just reveal shit for no reason. They would've eventually saw.
