It is possible to freeze hot water before cold in certain conditions but generally speaking, hot water does not freeze before cold. The fly thing is also inaccurate. Flies do jump backwards but not far enough to make a difference. The real reason is because we move glacially slow compared to a flies reaction time.

Hot water/cold water is debatable. According to Scientific American, hot water will not freeze before cold water but will freeze before lukewarm water. There are also people who will swear that cold water boils faster than hot water...
