9-1-1 4X14: Survivors
🕑 Added 2024-08-28 19:00:06 +0000 UTCOkay, I've decided that the family is now Eddie, Buck, and Christopher. Carla is allowed to come and go as she pleases. But this is cannon now.
So, in all honesty, I didn't really follow the who of 'who did this.' I get it was a former SWAT team member, but that's all I got. I kind of feel like that's all I need to know though.
That said, Buck crawling under the truck, to drag Eddie's bleeding and lifeless body under the truck, so he could get him to the back and into the truck was both awful and amazing. Buck is totally in the zone until they actual start heading towards the hospital. At that point, he starts to lose it a little. (Not that anyone could blame him).
Bobby and Athena are still fighting as all this is happening. But, as soon as Hen calls and tells him Eddie's been shot, they are both into action mode. Bobby heads to the hospital and Athena to the crime scene.
While Hen, Chim, and Albert wait outside the hospital, Albert asks where Buck is. He's got the worst job of all. Buck has to tell Christopher what happened. I was kind of holding it together until this part. When Buck started sobbing after he told Christopher, I was done for. How can anyone not sob when Buck is sobbing?
At this point, they think they've caught the sniper, so the first responders have stopped wearing protective gear. They go to a fire call that ends up coming from the sniper himself, pretending he was a victim. The 118 is told to leave the building as it's unstable, but Bobby thinks he found the victim so he stays to rescue him, and gets shot. Everyone makes it out except Bobby. Athena decides she's going in after her husband and suits up in firefighter gear and heads inside. She finds Bobby and shoots the suspect.
Later, Buck tells Eddie that Christopher took it better than he did. He also mentions that it should have been him that was shot, not Eddie. And when Eddie is about to be released, he tells Buck that he made him Christopher's legal guardian a year ago, in case anything happened to him, so he couldn't continue to think of himself as expendable. đ
In other news, Maddie quits due to her postpartum depression. (I'm hopeful she'll get her job back when she's feeling better). And Albert is officially LAFD! I hope he's part of the 118 next season.

I so didn't remember that about Bobby and Athena. It's gonna be fun when I rewatch to see all these details that I missed the first time around. Right? This feels very intentional.Up until this point, it might have been easy to enough to explain it away, but that's kind of impossible now. Back in the Eddie's Begins episode, I remember being really struck by how completely devastated Buck was when Eddie was trapped. It was total and complete anguish. I mean, everyone was upset, but not like this. They have been showing us for awhile, but I cannot see anything other than this now. I refuse to believe this is not a thing. I love your point about how Eddie realizes that Buck doesn't think he's invincible. He thinks he's expendable. And Eddie realized this a long time ago. And to show him he's not, he gave him the most important thing in the world, Christopher. And I also love the fact that Eddie is unconcerned about the fact his family might challenge Buck for custody, because he knows Buck will fight harder then them to keep Christopher. (Although, let's just hope we never get to that point, because that means Eddie's dies, but the sentiment is the same).

âthanks for coming to get meâ âalwaysâ â€ïž thatâs what athena told bobby and he responded in 4x02 when he saved her from the mudslide. i love callbacks like that. now onto the buck and eddie of it all because i have so much to say. the shooting scene and this episode is actually what made me go from âi love them but itâll never happen so this is a cute fanon shipâ to âokay i need this to be canon now.â like no offense to their other love interests but the writers donât develop those relationships so why should i care about them? they could have easily given eddie and ana some substance in this episode and given them a hospital scene but no, she was just there to call buck when he woke up. they give the important scenes to the dynamic that actually matters. also the way they had them parallel bobby and athena this episode was insane. first having buck crawl under a fire truck (when he had been crushed by one before) and pull eddie to safety while under gunfire and later having athena walking through literal fire to go save bobby. and then that quote bobby says to athena when they discuss her attack and it fits exactly what buck just went through with eddie âthereâs that thing people say âi donât know what iâd do without youâ because losing someone you love is such an alien concept, you donât want to imagine what itâs likeâŠand i was sitting in that engine thinking i was listening to you dying and i didnât need to imagine anything, i knew what my life would feel like without you in it and it scared meâ like we have seen buck upset when the others are injured/in danger but weâve now see him react to eddie almost dying twice and itâs not on the same level. at all. he is devastated without him. they parallel the already canon couples on the show so that was it for me. they are it for me. i can never be satisfied by their other relationships because they arenât fulfilling in the writing or in their dynamics. theyâre kinda just there and i always just wait for them to be over. oh and one more thing because i could literally talk about them forever but this is long enough, taylor says âyouâre not invincible, you could have gotten hurtâ before kissing him and earlier in the season in buck begins his mom says something similar âyou think youâre indestructible but youâre notâ but the thing is, he doesnât. he doesnât think heâs any of those things but they donât get it. eddie though, eddie gets it because he gets him. he knows that buck considers himself expendable. itâs not that he thinks nothing will ever happen to him, itâs that he doesnât care. he doesnât think heâs worth anything. we saw him injuring himself as a kid to get his parentâs attention, it all really stems from that. eddie making him see how valuable he actually is and leaving chris to him is huge. also making sure to call him evan to really drive the point home, to really have him listen, to show just how serious he is about it. beautiful. poetic. just so so good. okay iâll shut up now but i have a ton of feelings about this episode and i do have more to say but we have to wait til youâre fully caught up for that.
