9-1-1 5X5: Peer Pressure
🕑 Added 2024-09-09 23:36:20 +0000 UTCUgh. I really understand that postpartum depression is making Maddie act in a way she normally wouldn't, but it's still hard to reconcile it in my head. This just doesn't feel like something Maddie would do. I know logically, it makes sense, but it's hard to see her acting like this.
And poor Buck. He's so stressed out that neither Maddie or Chim will talk to him. Everyone is acting weird at the 118 since Chim is gone. He's convinced it's his fault because he told Chim it was okay to leave. He's so upset that he's 'ruining his family' that he's planning on transferring to another station, just so he isn't the cause of everyone's pain. Oh, my heart hurt for his this episode. But then, when he found out that all of them told Chim to go, and they didn't blame him, I was so relieved. My heart cannot take these people. Lol.
I really hope that May ends up following in Harry's footsteps and just punching Claudette. I hate that she's still treating May like this. Also, I really hate that philosophy of, 'I push you hard because I see potential in you.' This would 100% make me shut down and any potential I had would be squashed. I'm very much on the 'you nourish potential' side of things. How does she have the gall to just decided whenever she wants, that she's in charge of May's calls now. I hate it so much.
Harry finally tells Athena and Michael that he blames them for him getting kidnapped. This they are sort of okay with. But when Harry tells Athena that Jeffery was right, she is a bad mom, Athena loses her temper and slaps him. Which prompts Michael to try to force her into individual therapy because they always promised they would never hit their kids.
At the end of the episode, Buck finally gets a call from Maddie, who tells Buck she isn't ready to come home. But she loves him. He begs her to tell him where she is. She refuses, but in the background of the call he can hear music and he thinks he knows where she is.

Buck definitely seemed true to character here. And that whole scene that you described was perfect. But your right. A lot of other other of character things happening right now. I what tends to make this show really work is that a lot of the drama comes from the 9-1-1 calls, which means we can have some nice cozy, wholesome, scenes with our characters. That's not to say they can't have drama, they certainly do. But it's usually more emotional, than physical. Why does no one except May see that Claudette is awful? I never got the impression that the people working there were obtuse.

that scene of buck thinking chim leaving was his fault and wanting to transfer but everyone reassuring him always makes me teary. “you’re stuck with us” ❤️ i love our firefam i don’t think they were fully going for a parallel with buck and claudette. buck was getting ravi ready to take his place when he left and claudette is the worst and thinks she’s better than everyone. ravi is adorable though so it’s always nice when we get more of him. chimney punching buck last episode and athena hitting harry this episode? while i understand them being in terrible headspaces, the violence doesn’t really feel like 9-1-1 imo. watching live it felt more jarring because it was 2 weeks back to back, i was like “omg what’s happening to my show” and combine that with maddie and chimney being gone? there’s some good episodes but the first half of s5 was not my favorite.
