One Tree Hill 7X18: The Last Day of Acquaintance
🕑 Added 2024-10-23 18:00:07 +0000 UTCUgh. You guys. There was so much ugly crying by me this episode. I'm so sorry. Why couldn't I cry beautifully like Haley? Sigh.
So, we're dealing with the 'how soon will Haley's mom live?' And the answer is, not very long. She and Haley are making soup, when Haley runs upstairs (I cannot remember why). But when she comes back down, mom is unconscious on the ground surrounded by the soup. She ends up in the hospital with not much time left. We are all hanging out with her in the hospital.
At some point, Quinn heads over to Taylor's and tries to convince her that she really needs to go see mom because if she wants to say goodbye, now is the time. Taylor is all Taylor about it, and blows her off.
In the hospital, Haley talks to her about her life before she was born. How her and her dad fell in love, and of course, the soup recipe.
Jamie shows up with a star projector and tells grandma to make a wish. Shortly after this (or maybe just before, my grief is making things wonky), Taylor makes amends with everyone. I'm sure it's supposed to be powerful and impactful, but they've just made Taylor so unlikable and haven't given her enough time to redeem herself. But, everyone (minus me) forgives her. Afterwards, Lydia thanks Jamie. It's really kind of sweet.
However, once this happens, Lydia claims she can see her late husband, and slips off.
Outside of this, Brooke is convinced that Alex slept with Julian and treats them both like shit. This eventually culminates in Brooke punching Alex in the face and shutting down production of the movie until she heals. it's costing them about $100,000. Julian throws her off the set before she has a chance to explain.
Later, she tells Alexander about what happens and he informs her that it was actually he, who slept with Alex, not Julian. Brooke is stunned, and feels like an idiot. I kind of hate this. This is such a contrived misunderstanding.
After talking with her mom about it, she goes to talk to Julian (well, she ends up talking to Alex first, but that wasn't the plan). She tells him she's crazy in love with him, and that makes her do crazy things. He tells her she thinks too much, kisses her. Then, they end up back at her place later and they are totally making out on the couch. Please! Can this be the end for them? I don't need anymore bullshit keeping them apart. I just want them to be in love!
I don't know why the hell this girl who looks just like Sara is now obsessed with Clay, but she is. It's been a while since we had a batshit crazy plot line in Tree Hill, but I think we are heading in that direction.
Alex ends up going to her douchebag costar for sex. But she's totally pretending he's Julian. And it looks that the asshole is totally gonna film her. Like we need more sex tapes on this show.
And we find out that Victoria was actually stood up by Alexander (because he was busy having sex with Alex), not Paul liked we'd assumed. He apologizes and it seems like they are going to date. How old is he? I figure Victoria's gotta be about 50. He seems like he's about 30. It's not crazy. I'm just curious.

Don't feel bad Dana....I think we all ugly cried at some point during this episode, hehe. Seriously though, it was a roller coaster of emotions and in many ways is only just beginning with this storyline. It's touching, and heartbreaking, and the acting is so spot on, and you really feel the whole gauntlet of emotions from all involved, and the writing has just been fantastic.... they didn't miss with this. I like how it started out with Haley and Lydia making the soup, and it ended with Haley and Jamie taking over. So touching and poignant indeed. Plus, we got to see the Eskimo kisses from Lydia and Haley in this...and now we know how it all got started because that's been a special coveted thing between Haley and Jamie since S5, so I love the choice to include how it originated in this episode. I also like how they used the soup moments between Haley and Lydia to tell their mother/daughter relationship throughout the episode while Haley kept vigil by her mom's side in the hospital. It was all really well done. And oh my word.... Nathan reading over Lydia's funeral arrangements so that Haley wouldn't have too.... slay me now. That scene between Naley was so touching when Nathan reassured Haley that she would handle things graciously and courageously like she always does, with him by her side every step of the way. He is just the best.... that's my favorite Nathan Scott right there. And that moment in the kitchen between Naley when Nathan finds Haley making the soup and cutting up vegetables, and he tells her that Jamie knows about Lydia because he guessed, and she just breaks down in his arms....is so powerful, and such amazing acting from Joy. I'm glad you mentioned that scene as well because when this episode was originally airing, the network released that Naley scene as a sneak peek for the episode a few days before this episode aired because even they knew the magnitude of Joy's acting in this storyline, and every network and studio executive was raving about her. It's the beginning of what should have been her Emmy reel if you ask me, hehe. But that scene is so gut-wrenching, and Joy played it perfectly. The writing for Haley to say to Nathan that there are so many things that go with her when she dies and that she doesn't know the right questions to ask, and she's just really not ready for this, and Nathan tells her that nobody ever is....is so on point, and so raw and authentic, that you can't help but be drawn into Haley's physical and emotional pain in that moment. Gosh...I could rave about her all day, and James being the perfect scene partner for Joy in all of these moments really adds to the dynamic of Naley, and elevates her performance here. Then we get the fabulous Nathan and Jamie scenes as Nathan is telling Jamie about Lydia not having much time left, and we learn that she was the one who taught him to wish on a star, and he wished for his bunny Chester, hehe. So, when Jamie comes to the hospital with his backpack full of goodies and starts reading his favorite book to his grandma that his mom reads to him when he's sick...who didn't instantly fight back tears. Jamie is just the best, especially when he pulled out the star lantern that illuminated over the ceiling and the hospital walls, and Lydia had her wish granted when Taylor showed up and apologized to her and her sister's and vowed to be better, and Lydia thanked Jamie....gosh it was all so perfect. And yes...Clay being there for Quinn as well as Naley felt fitting indeed because he is family at this point, and to me it's been such a seamless transition how well he fits in with NHJ and their orbit. It's like he was meant to be there as Nathan's agent and his family's protector all along, and I just really love the Clay dynamic with Naley and their family. One of my favorite things about this season, no doubt. And the slideshow that Clay/Quinn put together for Lydia was amazing, and such a fitting tribute for her to have her family right there by her side, watching her life in a slideshow, as she passed onto the other side anxiously awaiting to be greeted by her better half. I think I'm still sobbing, hehe. Especially as "Landslide" played over it all. And then Sheryl Crow played over the ending as the family spread Lydia's ashes at Airlie Gardens, and then we get the Haley/Jamie scene with the soup at the end....I don't think my tears stopped in this episode. So, I feel you with all the emotions Dana, and that's exactly what this episode was supposed to do. And they even set up some things to come with the crazy batshit look alike Sara that is obviously obsessed with Clay, so you just know that some insane stuff is right around the corner as well, lol. All I will say...is buckle up tight, as you get ready for the rest of this season to play out, hehe!!!

Same....what we get for the rest of the season is by far my favorite Haley story, and by extension Nathan and their family. Joy is absolutely brilliant as Haley during this arc, and she so knocks it out of the park!!!

Such an emotional episode. And the rest of this season is some of my favorite stuff for the show so I am so excited
