This episode was bleak in certain aspects but in others not so much...it was actually enjoyable, lol. Love how happy you can clearly tell that Nathan is at the beginning when he's shooting around on the rivercourt because that's James in his best element, when he's the happiest, when he's got a basketball in his hands on set, and so it really shines through onscreen for sure. Also, I remember how hot it was that day filming those scenes at the RC. It was the beginning of August, and it had to be about 110 degrees in Wilmington that day, and they kept rubbing James down with sunscreen in between takes so he wouldn't get sunburned it was that intense, and so the sweat from Nathan that was dripping down onto the ball was very real indeed, no water needed to be sprayed on James at all, lol. Anyways Julian recording it all....and Good Life playing by OneRepublic, really made for a fantastic scene of Nathan walking away from the game. Loved the Naley bathroom scene when Haley kissed Nathan who had shaving cream all over his face, and so she ended up with it on her cheek, lol, and Nathan had to wipe it off.... the JL's faces were adorable there conveying Naley's love for each other. You could tell they had a blast filming that scene, hehe. And Julian coming over to bring Haley flowers for Quinn and then reveal that he was the one to pick out the arrangement was hilarious, lol. Who knew Julian would turn into such a coveted florist, lol. I actually enjoyed the Chase and Alex golfing stuff in this episode, lol. I thought it was about the best version of Chase that we have ever gotten. They've turned his character into such a goofy sidekick bartender who doesn't know how to make drinks, and it's like he's got a Peter Pan complex...he's afraid to grow up, but we get to see a different and better side to him when he's in these scenes with Alex, and I thought it was actually quite enjoyable to watch, hehe. Plus, How by Maroon 5 playing throughout the sequence didn't hurt either, and then it continued into the Nathan/Julian scene at the bar inside Tric, and you're reminded again of just how important the musical component is to this show and how much it can elevate the material and bring the scenes to life. I really adored the Nathan/Julian scene, and it was important to show us Nathan coming to terms with his back and deciding to walk away from the game on his own, and the fact that Julian was there to spur him on......was powerful I thought. I love the notion that Nathan didn't know that Jamie and Julian had been playing baseball together, and that Jamie loves it as much as he does, was the push in the right direction that Nathan needed to pull the trigger. That and going over to the beach house to clean up the crime scene and he realized what a tough couple of weeks it had been, and the fact that Haley's pregnant and he doesn't want to miss out on anything, made him realize that playing a game was just that....a game, and it wasn't life, or the most important thing. Loved Nathan in that moment. Also him with Clay was great as well...you really see the depth of their friendship this season. And then when he goes home to tell Haley that he's done playing, and she immediately asks him what he wants? Talk about emotional. Those two have the best communication skills and set the bar so high for couples on how to relate to each other. Their talk was so poignant and amazing, incredibly real and genuine, and I just love them to pieces. When Nathan tells his wife that he's ready for the next phase of his life and he's happy that he gets to spend it with her.... I just melted. Naley are everything. Once again...Nathan and his speeches reserved just for Haley are like nothing else, hehe. They are so damn good!!! And Brooke deciding to give up her company was Brooke Davis at her finest. Such a difficult decision to make, but one she felt like she had to. It was the right thing to do for her, no matter how hard. So, both her and Nathan are having to start over, and it will be interesting to follow their journey this season, and see what becomes of them both, and will they find something else, and be just as happy and fulfilled? Stay tuned, hehe.

Yes...bringing the theme song back for S8 was done as an homage to the fans in case it ended up being the last season, so they let lots of artists who had been featured on the show over the years cover the song to change things up a bit. You'll probably enjoy some and others not so much, lol, but the original will appear throughout the season on a few episodes....so you'll still have it to look forward to :)
