The Fosters 3X15: Minor Offenses
🕑 Added 2025-06-13 18:00:08 +0000 UTCI'm very disappointed with Callie in this episode. I cannot believe she would go after Rita like that. I think it's fine if they disagree, but Callie was really hurtful. (I mean, I also think Callie is 100% wrong, but that's not even the issue).
So, we start with Justina and Callie showing the moms an ad to endorse a bill for foster reform on the website. It looks very impressive, but as no one has read the bill, moms are skeptical. Callie says she hasn't read it either, but she trusts Justina (Callie, don't). While they are talking about it, Justina says that Callie has been invited to the White House to discuss this. Callie is upset that moms are not saying 'yes' immediately, but they agree to discuss it after they've read the bill.
Callie heads over to discuss this with Rita (actually she wants to do her senior project on her, but they segue into this) and Rita tells her she has actually read the bill and she's against it. She informs Callie that they bills wants to spend 50% of the money on privatized homes, something Callie herself is against. She's confused since she's pretty sure Justina is against that too. Rita suggests she read the bill herself or talk to Justina.
She talks to Justina about it (angrily) and Justina seems to have an answer for everything. It's not a good answer, but Callie seems to go along with it. Basically Justina claims that by using privatized homes, people are held accountable for when bad things happen. Except we've already seen in this show that that doesn't happen. However, that response seems to be good enough for Callie. When she discusses it again with Rita, who has pushback, Callie tells her it makes sense for her to not want to change things since her job depends on things staying the same. Ouch. Callie that hurt. I think I would be less upset if Callie wasn't essentially taking Justina's side on this. But, she's literally just deciding on a whim to change her mind on everything she was so passionately and adamantly against.
Elsewhere, Jesus goes back to talk to Gabe, claiming he knows what he did and he's a disgusting human. (I guess Mariana passed along that information to him). Mariana, concerned for her brother, tells moms that he found their birth father, what she found out about him, and that Jesus has been seeing him. And moms lay down the law. No contact with him. Ever. The twins agree and that seems to be it for now. (Or maybe not, I cannot remember if a scene happened in this episode or the next one, so I'm going to put it in that one to be sure).
Meanwhile, Ty is set to go before the judge and Mike comes over to ask if Stef would be willing to go before the judge and ask for leniency. It doesn't seem like she wants anything to do with it, but he leaves his file in hopes she'll change her mind. When he leaves, Callie tells them that when she came to the house, they told her she wasn't disposable, and asks why they are treating Ty that way.
Just as they are about it sentence Ty, Stef comes in and asks if she can give a victim impact statement. She explains that Ty was never really given a fair shot at life. She's not sure she forgives him for what he did to her family, but she can understand how he ended up here. The judge claims to take this into account, but still sentences him to 18 months (which is much better than 5 years).
Mariana finally agrees to a date with Nick, who goes to Jesus for advice. Annoyed that she's dating his friend when they had agreed not to, he sets up a double date at a hamburger place with him and Lexi. Mariana and Lexi are getting along well right not, plus, Mariana is a vegetarian, so this date is not starting off well. And it only gets worse when Nick starts racing on the way home, speeding, and weaving in and out of traffic. Mariana and Lexi are petrified and demand to be let out. They'd rather walk home than be stuck in the car with that maniac. It doesn't look like Nick will be getting another date. But, maybe the girls can mend some fences here.
And Brandon is still trying to date his co-worker. While they're having a 'date' on her 15 minute break, her ex drops off their kid since he got called into work (like she's not at work right now). Brandon offers to watch him for the rest of her shift. I just cannot see this going anywhere. I don't know if this is just an attempt to get over Callie, or prove he's not like all the other guys who wouldn't date a girl with a two year old, but either way, I don't think this is Brandon's happy ending.

I think Callie just super invested in fost and found and Justine so she doubled down instead of admitting she is wrong which sucks I expect more from her at this point. Rita is so graceful even as Callie is being rude.

I agree with you about Callie aswell. I mean we know that she does wanna make a genuine positive change in the system that absues foster kids, so when Justine who she sees as the one person with moeny and influence that seems to actaully care about foster care kids comes along (who has already helped her with her Fost and Found app alot) and has now gotten her a literal ticket to the white house which she sees as actual progress as Justine has actaully gotten her voice heard loud enough to get an invitation to the main stage so when she hears about this bill aswell it's like wow Justine really cares about this cause and has proven to help us time and time again. So when both her parents and Rita both tell her about their concerns for the bill with one telling them to actually read it fully and the other telling them they have actually read it she feels deflective and thinks Justine has made steps towards actual change so they must just be jealous that Justine is trying to take down the sytem and rebuild a more better one whist Rita only want's to uhold it and just repeats Justines talking points even though she was previously against privitization now she doesn't mind it and actaully sees it as a positive and justifiable when it's coming from the mouth of someone that has helped her greatly already as she think's that Justine has great intentions regarding the whole bill and wouldn't actually support privitization for the sake of it and so CEO'S can make even more profit putting foster kids in dangerous enviroments for the bottom doller. I just think that once Callie sees the truth she won't let Justine be the mouth piece to her freedom of thought. Me personally us as the viewers have already seen how shady justine has been regarding Jude's friend and moving him to a new home and lying to Callie about it when she confronted her about it. So in my book it's not much of a strech to think that Justine would also be supporting this bill for neferious reasons giving how easily lying to people's faces comes to her. We can already see the harm privitized foster systems are doing to people like Judes friend so I don't believe that adding more will be more postive rather than more negative and just add more fuel to the fire of the already broken system. I Think that currently Callie has a bit of stockholm sydrome when it comes to Justine where she is seeing her through more rose-colored-glasses that sees any critique of Justine is just hate and she needs to break free from it. I just can't wait for Callie to see her for what she trully is and hopefully she ends up apologising to Rita next episode because regardless of how she feels she should not have said that to Rita when she knows that Rita is not about bending to the system at all and that Rita actually cares about helping foster kids so much so she has dedicated 30 years of her life to doing so.
