Russia-Ukraine Flash Report 04 OCT 2022 18:30 EDT - During the Holocaust

In the basement of one of the houses they told their liberators, they could hear screams night and day. On the edge of the forest, gunshots would be heard. Townspeople would disappear and never be seen again. A few POWs were taken there too.
The soldiers went to the house and found some prisoners still locked in dark rooms. They found the implements of torture, the evidence of the brutality. People took them to the site of the mass grave. They said the smell was horrible.
Later in the recent excavation, they found dental work from those who had been tortured and executed. Bridges and crowns. Removed to inflict pain.
I wish I could tell you this story was from 1942. I wish I could tell you this was the Waffen SS and that since 1998, there hasn't been an organized genocide on the European continent. I wish I could tell you that these were found buried in the ground, not in a plastic bucket as trophies.
But this wasn't 1942.
It was 2022.
Those are the dental implants, crowns, and bridges ripped out of victims' heads. Villagers in Pisky-Rad'kivs'ki told the Ukrainian troops of a house where screams would come from day and night. In the basement, they told them. They found that bucket of dental implants. They told them who the Russian soldiers were and the collaborators in town. They took them to the mass grave.
This is Ukraine.
This is 2022.
This is the truth.
The truth matters.
These people mattered.
There needs to be justice.

I only wish I could say that I am shocked or surprised. This is how they acted during and after the last great war in Poland.
Man, I hope Yad Vashem and the Shoah Foundation is helping to document. Sadly, they have a lot of experience with this sort of thing. Also how do you show appreciation? Giving this a “Like” somehow feels wrong…

You need not bother me with details of how the perpetrators are being dealt with. I hope for justice. . . but justice comes in many forms and it’s not my duty to police the response. When bad things happen to bad people, well, bad things happen. And please don’t confuse me with a retributionist or eye for an eye Old Testament god. I’m just a guy sayin’ damn.

Fucking animals. There's dodgy stuff from any military during war, it's part of war. It's inexcusable, but unfortunately it happens. However in a disciplined military from a civilised country this happens in isolation and swiftly punished. But that isn't the case for Russians. So many mass graves, so many torture chambers, so many victims or rape. So many civilians purposefully targeted to inflict terror. So many children killed. That is why Ukraine needs all the help we can give them. Not just to defend their country, but to defend humanity.
This is so difficult and so necessary. Thank you.
