Russia-Ukraine SITREP A for 13 MAY 2023 23:59* - Petty Attack on Ternopil and the Russian Airforce has a Really Bad Day

Important: Until further notice, we are moving to a condensed format for Situation Reports due to increasing activity in support of the looming Ukrainian offensive. The news cycle is moving too fast to do one report every 24 hours. Up to three Situation Reports will up done a day, and there may be a significant increase in flash reports. We will also do live streams if the situation becomes dynamic. Once the operational tempo slows down, we will move back to full reports.
What's the big story? Russia lost four aircraft over Bryansk today with the loss of all aircrews when unknown air defenses shot them down.
The second story? While the musical group TVORCHI performed for Eurovision 2023, Russian cruise missiles were striking their hometown of Ternopil, and Russian social media was engaged in a coordinated disinformation campaign.
Bonus story? Yevgeny Prigozhin asks, "Am I drama? Is it me?" Yes - you are the drama.
Editor's Note: When we were preparing the May 12 Situation Report, we were already aware of three of the four Russian aircraft shot down over Bryansk. Because we have a policy of right over first, we did not share that information until we could determine if the aircraft were Russian or Ukrainian and who shot them down. I’ve seen some claims that it was actually the work of Russia’s own air defence. Proposed addition to the Table of Heavy Equipment Losses at the end of the SITREP: Shooting down own aircraft: Ukraine: 1 uncrewed (a malfunctioning Bayraktar drone over Kyiv). Russia: 4 crewed* (2 jets + 2 helicopters over Bryansk, all at once :-) * I managed to resist the temptation to add an “s” in front of this word. Trying to keep my comments SFW :-) [Edited to add source.]
Curious if you have an opinion on what air defense system ukraine has which could have downed the 4 aircraft (assuming it wasn't the russians) from such a distance. Certainly the patriot could but surely they wouldn't bring it so close to the front. I don't really know the ranges of the other systems ukraine has.
