More on the "controversial" decision by the US to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions. I saw an interview with Ret UK Air Vice Marshall Sean Bell on Sky News where he made a very balanced case for why they were needed: - US claims a 2.35% dud rate. Whereas some of the Russian ordnance being used have up to a 40% dud rate. Any dud rate leaves a legacy. - Mines will be by far the most significant long-term problem for Ukraine - Russia is accused of using cluster munitions against civilians - Cluster weapons could "blow a path" through a minefield.
minefield always favors defense. If Vatniks are thinking of attacking Ukr on that front, then it would impact Vatniks. Because Ukr is on couteroffense, it will disproportionally impact Ukraine side, for now.
Can someone elaborate on this statement on p26: "The density of landmines deployed exceeds Russian Federation doctrine, making maneuver warfare difficult." Does this mean that the Russian army has over-mined areas and so boxed themselves in too tightly, or that it is impacting both combatants equally, or only impacting Ukraine?
