That’s an interesting point to bring up and it really depends how you view this series. On one hand, it can be read as a fantastical romp about the potential use of nano technology, and on the other it can be read as a deep character exploration about identity. Both of these characters arrived at this point through entirely different paths. One was “forced” upon a character and the other “chose” their situation. What does it say about them and their respective reactions? From a pure writing perspective, character growth can be shown through how they change. Usually, this is done by showing how their initial belief or what they wanted was wrong. (For example, I enter into evidence almost every Pixar film - I could heap a whole bunch more into the evidence bin, Loki, Geralt of Rivia, Tony Stark from the MCU, I could go on, but I won’t…) When all is said and done, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Lexi gives back her trades and Stephanie keeps hers. It would work as a interesting dyad - and deepen their friendship having both gone through an experience and arrive at two entirely different conclusions.

I don’t know if Stefanie was trying to be sarcastic with the comment about Lexi visiting particular bars. However, in some ways, I can still genuinely sense their friendship. I wonder if they will ever sit down and discuss their feelings towards each other as friends and the journey they’ve been on over the last while.
