Bounce needs to be added. So, I would honestly listen to "old" funk and apply that.
More bounce to the ounce. Check the bass line moving around, guitar funking away, chorus with vocals with vocoder. Or just add one of those west coast lines.

Thx for the feedback mate. I sit with headphones for a couple of hours when I produce so I guess that's why I sometimes can't hear when something is too quiet or loud, and that's why the vocal got mixed so low
