Did that. I also tried deleting and adding a new one to make sure it's empty. I'll take a another look at it tomorrow. Been a long day..
Maybe you haven't assigned the vertex group to your Suzanne yet?

Hi Steve! awesome tutorial! I can't get the VertexWeightProximity modifier to work. any thoughts? does it not work on the latest build of 2.8? (my scene just has Suzanne and an icosphere)
