I agree to giving this bit of information to them! From looking at a map and only the context given from the anime, the explanation of why they don't go North from the Demon Continent gets lost completely. I don't see it as spoilers, and more of context given that the anime lacked.

Btw, the episode title is wrong, A Chance Encounter was episode 9, this episode is "The Woman with the Demon Eyes". Though it's still strangely fitting.

It's never explained in the show, but the LN gives a bit of explanation of their route back home. From Rikaris, they went straight south to Wind Port which is at the southern tip of the demon cont. and went down to the Millis continent. Then they have to go west to the Central continent. The small landmass at the top of the map is called the Heaven Continent and its where a race of bird people live (like angels), they don't allow humans on or even near their land, which us why they had to go the long way.
