when I was a kid, I remember fansubs would have notes and stuff regarding context like formal speech and stuff...I wonder if there are ppl that still do stuff like that. Maybe not with all the "official translations" now. Would be cool.

What can you do, the way Rudy speaks is done as it should be in Japanese, the subtitles and dub are another problem.

thats the one thing im kinda sad about with anime. i miss the nuance of the language that i know a lot of it leans on .

It s harder translate the formality thing in Rudy's speech considering the language barrier but if you can understand it it adds a lot to the story for reference: child Rudy: was speaking as formally as much a businessman in a company would and in the sub it is translated as him calling his dad and mom with father and mother and calling Ruijurd mr Ruijerd or some sht (only Eris he calls just by her name because she technically is his student but still the rest of the sentence is business like) depression Rudy: was speaking super formally and borderline as a servant or butler to everyone which was one of the main reasons everyone was creeped out uni Rudy: at first he was speaking like depression Rudy but after interacting with Zanoba and making friends he almost dropped the formal speech except in serious situations (which implied that Sylphy growing her hair is serious for him because he suddenly switched to formal language) and was speaking like a normal respectable person

In the previous opening its either Eris, or it's meant to be a general representation of the women he's connected to. The red, green, and blue birds throughout the intro are Roxy, Sylphiette, and Eris. The green bird changes from green to white when it flies past Ariel and Luke, but I don't think that has any direct correlation to the girl at the beginning.

well consider who rudys teachers have been. paul , although a slacker is actually pretty exceptional. i think hes advanced in all three styles. ghilaine is a sword king?! ruijerd has like 500 years of battle experience, and his partner for the training was eris, who is actually quite talented herself. so although rudy cant produce a battle aura(dbz ki), he makes up for it with his demon eye and just pure skill. to put it in perspective, luke is ariels knight(whether he slacks off a bit or not, but he lost to rudy who's a mage in SWORD fighting :D )
