Regarding Oikura's room number, the number "4" (四, shi) is a homophone for "death" (死, shi). Because tetraphobia is taken seriously, many Japanese buildings skip the fourth floor entirely – similar to how some Western buildings skip the thirteenth floor – and apartments with "4" in the number are considered undesirable.
