[sketchbook] Designing Des
🕑 Added 2022-03-04 17:00:07 +0000 UTCI thought y'all might want to see some more info on his design now that the reveal happened!
First image is his design/skin markings without the extra shading and such. The next two images are my initial sketches that I was fiddling around with -- obvs the overall shape wasn't right for Des, but I just wanted to figure out the look overall at that step. I almost gave him wings but Lucid convinced me not to bc of how much of a pain in the butt they are haha ;; I went with some back ridges instead, which you'll see on the upcoming pages.
I honestly struggled quite a bit with finalizing his design, so I hope you guys like it!! I waffled a lot between "I don't want to be a coward" and "I want to design something within my comfort zone so I can draw it well" and I think I landed on a happy medium. Animals and animal traits has always been a weak point for me in my art tbh so while I wanted him to look less human, I also didn't want to struggle through something too animalistic. Plus, that helped with keeping the monster fucker energy anyways :)

oh and the actual frame from the comic, his expression is all "Gabe, please, it is still me, I hope you're not too weirded out 😰" – however you managed to express that with just a few lines I'll never know 😅

His mouth with those two "lip fangs" is absolutely astonishing, almost lizard-like. Yes he should have had wings but yikes that would have been a pain to draw, maybe they are retractable 😄
