Referencing is KING!

Don't confuse this with imitating, copying or stealing. Referencing is a POWERFUL tool when it comes to art of any form. Lets rephrase it as "Learning from the best". Because that what you're doing. Seeing what the artists who are at the top of their game are doing, analyzing it, and implementing what you've learnt into your own artworks.
Referencing in music production and creation can be used in so many different aspects, from song writing, arrangement, drop structure, melody, chord and progression structure, mixing - levels, EQ, spectral analysis, loudness, sample selection, to basic creative ideas and starting points, motivation and inspiration.
Referencing should not be undermined. Once learned to be used correctly it'll be an essential tool in your tool belt and will become somewhat second nature. You'll wonder how you ever did without it. I hope you guys get a little taste for why i think its so important in this video!

I always group my master chain and bind a key to the on off switch, and then the same key to the reference track group. This way I can still easily also see what’s happening in my meters

So what i do to escape that is create a group and each track inside that group is routed to "Ext Out". They wont be effected by the master channel that way.

When I try to reference other tracks within ableton, I run into the issue of those tracks being affected by my master chain. How do you reference the other, finished tracks, without coloring them by your project's processing?
