So much sadistic violence. Always seems to be a 13 year old boy's idea of "adult". I did like burnt out middle aged Spiderman in Spiderverse, but then that is all round amazing.

You know what would make a great all-ages superhero movie franchise thingy? Fantastic Four done right. Batshit insane cosmic nonsense anchorned by a family soap opera that has space for Reed being borderline-autistic and Valeria schooling Uncle Doom. I'd love to see you make a video about that. ;)

This is one of your best position statements so far, Mister Willems. No (killing) joke about it. Absolute agreement.

As a man of similar age, your most cogent point of the video essay is addressing the need for the conservation of superheroes - that one generation preserves and passes down the characters to the next, rather than a narcissistic upsell to ourselves with a dark, bloody gloss. Perhaps what is left unsaid is the American, adolescent reverence we give to the high stage of youth, dreading our gradual aging, while we silently watch our elders pass away without a word. Thankful you recognize this in your own words, and had two fathers of modern comics passing on their wisdom to us all. Good work with this one.

This really hits the nail on the head to explain why I have never felt like there were comics out there for me (aside from like, ATLA). Everything I've heard about feels too gratuitously violent, especially against women, without using the violence to say much of anything. I'm a squeamish person in general but a lot of comics are genuinely shocking.

Great video. And it again makes me so sad to see Moore's work continually being uses for all the wrong reasons.
