It's day 2! Our first match-up is...
What Makes a Surprise Cameo Actually Good? (submitted by Eric Johnson)
vs.
Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours Trilogy - The Original Cinematic Universe (submitted by Raman Sehgal)
The cameo video I imagine being kind of like the PG-13 F-bomb video from a few years ago - breaking down a short, simple cinematic device, discussing the functions it serves and how it can be used well. And I have strict rules about what really qualifies as a cameo. Tom Cruise in Goldmember? That counts. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder? Not a cameo! If they appear in more than one scene it's just a supporting role.
And then for something totally different, we have Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colors Trilogy, some of the most celebrated and iconic European arthouse movies of the 90s (which I only saw for the first time in 2022). These are wonderful, incredible films...that also happen to exist within a cinematic universe, with overlapping characters and timelines. So how is this approach that has come to dominate mainstream franchise filmmaking used by a wildly different kind of movie? What does it add? Could these franchise blockbusters learn anything from it? And despite what the title here says, YES I KNOW IT'S NOT ACTUALLY THE FIRST CINEMATIC UNIVERSE, so the video itself would have a different title.
And don't forget to vote in today's other match-up, Legacy Sequels vs. Hacking in Movies!

This is the only one of these brackets that I find it hard to choose between.
Allan Rousselle
One or two other brackets, my thinking is, "Ehh, these are fine, I guess. Patrick will make them interesting, but neither topic grabs me at the moment." Whereas, in this case, I really, really, really want Patrick to do both of these.
Kieslowski is The Replacements (the band) of modern cinema - every critic knows and loves 'em and mistakenly thinks that the general media fanbase is way more aware than they are. Surprise cameos would be a great video, but Patrick - 3 Colours would be a God damn public service!!
Three colors is the best trilogy that no one knows about. Also I want Patrick to talk about Red , because it's my all time favorite film.
Dean Hacker
The Universal Monsters are probably the first cinematic universe, but I really want to hear about the Three Colors trilogy.
Temperate Houndsman
Three Colors, if for no other reason than to tell more people it exists.
My gut was to vote Cameos, but decided to switch to vote for Colors BECAUSE it's a bit different than I would normally pay attention to
Andrew J. Eisenman
guys, let him give us a good meal, pick 3 colors
Benjamin Tirone Nunes
Come on Three Colors!! Please!!
We can get something really deep and insightful here folks, Go Three Colors! Not that cameos are bad they're just not exactly Intellectual ™ lol
Story Mode
Three Colors Trilogy is great, but I think Cameos is a much more interesting video topic.
i know THREE COLOURS is not the favorite - but we can make it the Cinderella Story of this entire bracket. COME ON GUYS - we don't really need another pop culture video from PJ Wizzy, we need another culture-culture one to learn more about new things (also, this trilogy is excellent and is a great first foray into arthouse foreign films featuring some AMAZING actresses)
