My Smart ForTwo has Electrical Problems
🕑 Added 2018-06-14 14:01:02 +0000 UTC I knew I couldn't finish the Saab 96 project and get the video edited in time to meet my release schedule, so I made an explainer of my problematic Smart car instead. The script for this video was a bit under-developed, so hopefully the ridiculous ending makes up for that a bit.If you have any suggestions about a possible fix or what I should do with this car, I'm all ears. Well, not literally. That would look disgusting.

Ah I see. I thought it was a bit of a leap to be suspecting modules. Either way I shall ponder over this (you never know intelligence might hit me one day!) And as ever hope the projects go well for you. Take it steady.

I described that poorly in the video. The cut-out doesn't just happen when I'm decelerating or idling. It also happens when the engine is off. It has even happened with the engine off, the car not moving, and with no one in the car (Obviously, the ignition was on). It seems to be completely unrelated to movement with the exception that's it's never cut out while driving over 10 mph. I'll fiddle with it eventually, but I have a Saab project to finish first.
If you felt like having a hunt for this problem try the nice (and free) wiggle test. Yes that sounds wrong but essentially go around wiggling/pulling/disturbing whatever loom/wires/connections you can get to with the engine running (without putting yourself in harms way of spinning /hot things) and see if the fault manifests itself. It just seems odd how the fault kills all the electrics under deceleration/idling after said deceleration, almost alluding to something getting jarred by the engines movements in its mounts.

I don't think this even has an auto start-stop system, but that's a good guess!

Unhelpful random guessing time! All I've ever heard about Smarts over here (UK) is that the auto start-stop system can go mad and turn your engine off (when stantionary and stopping) and not want to restart - perhaps something like that is going on.
Oh, that mileage jump may have been a dash swap, the ECU will store the mileage and the dash will store the mileage, but the OBD tool may have triggered it to update, would be my guess.
