That’s a very good point, there’s no reason to believe that civilisation won’t progress to the point where it’s incomprehensible to modern man. Although saying that, I do rather enjoy the charm of that era of science fiction, it’s it’s own thing in itself. Yeah exactly, where will all those ads and Walmart’s lead us down the line, that’s the real question. Oh HL is anything but Utopian 🤣

As I'm reading this, I'm contrasting it to the sci-fi of Asimov. Like, the guys in the 40s and 50s thought that humanity would kinda just keep going forever, totally ignoring biology and evolution, just new versions of the roman empire in space. It feels so refreshing, so much more REAL to imagine a post-human biology. Like, not to get TOO deep into the weeds, but it's like an antidote to the cancelation of the future that Mark Fisher was talking about in Capitalist Realism, like this future that's kinda like "yeah, nothing will ever change, it's just more ads and walmarts. That's the best we can do." I mean, HL isn't like UTOPIAN by any means. But it does seem more reasonable in it's imagination in a "man-made horrors beyond your comprehension" sort of way.

Ah yes well perhaps with the humanoid soldier caste that could be the case, I like the way you described it there with the aphid analogy, that could be canon. It may mean a platoon would be vulnerable to viral attack but the larger invasion force would be shielded, it would also fit better with the theme of mass production. Thanks, mate, I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far.

That's very interesting, especially the part where they still use sexual reproduction to maintain genetic variance. I imagined it would be like aphids, all copies of the same mother at least with the soldier and worker castes although the vulnerability to viruses is indeed a big problem to tackle. Great stuff by the way!

Each bioengineered life form on the womb world are hybrids between some earth life, some alien and all have human genes to make them all compatible with one another. Each element serves its own purpose but all ultimately work towards the production of new troops and new bio-vehicles. But yeah it’s an amalgamation to answer the question. They also aren’t clones, they have offspring to create genetic variance, otherwise imperium lifeforms would be extremely vulnreble to things like viruses.

This is amazing..so the entire imperium literally uses the human genome as a template for everything else. Is it derived from a single but genetically resilient person like in Prophet or a amalgamation of the entire human race with a bit of other traits from other earth organisms?
