[Teen Talk] S2 Ep. 23 - Alright
🕑 Added 2022-12-07 02:00:03 +0000 UTCThe Dad Crew sits down to talk about the nuances of episode 23 of season two, but starts off with a vital diversion into Beth's recent Warhammer nightmare.
Eventually they get to the episode, including how Anthony put it all together, how the evolution of the Doodler changes how you see season one, and Hermie's complex family lore.
Plus, they answer some listener questions and get into lies everyone believed for a long time, Beth's favorite musicals, and the books/movies everyone misjudged in high school.

Shout out to Will for remembering and asking about Morgan Freeman (the NPC, not the actor).

potential spoilers up to ep.40 - The choice to put the doodler in as a teen is amazing - my initial thought was that it's a mirror for the teens to see themselves in since it ends up reflecting their behaviors and not just rebel against their parents but be better. The insight that- the dads look worse once they realize the doodler was a misunderstood evil is interesting. I don't think that's emphasized in the main feed, but they also sat in the throne, they would understand the doodler just as well.

Big agree with Will about waiting to reveal the Dads thing, as an audience member it gets tiring being teased and advertised to with characters you loved from past shows to make sure you watch more. This way it was just a lovely surprise and made the episode pop way more

CATCHER IN THE RYE SUCKED IT HAD NO PLOT EXCEPT JUST AN ANGSTY KID WHO SUCKS BUT THINKS EVERYBODY ELSE SUCKS AND SPENDS THE ENTIRE TIME COMPLAINING

Antony's description about the feelings the doodler has in the end still gets me so hard

This episode is phenomenal. It's one of my favourites.

Anthony talking about his feelings of S1 vs S2 has the same energy as a dad who has 2 sons, loves the older one more, and isn't shy about it.

Huh. I watched the first episode of Andor and I didn't feel like continuing. I guess you really do need a banger at the end of an episode.

I LOVE pride and prejudice and zombies it’s a comfort movie

I feel like in "the forgotton season" between these 2 they would resolve Nick actually being Glenn's son.

Will—my friend in elementary school had me convinced that Narnia was real and would give me updates on my boyfriend, Mr. Tumnus and snuggle love letters to him from me.

Escape board game night with Matt explaining to Beth how to DM while everyone else plays Beth's inner thoughts like Disco Elysium or (Inside out).
Beth has GOT to listen to natasha pierre and the great comet of 1812 if she hasn’t it’s fantastic
Wandering Giant
Oh man I've got the EXACT same rant as Freddie about the red beans
Philip Enders Arden
Hmm. Did you get deez nuts’ed with a listener question?

Fuck yes, musical theater rep! And 25th annual Putnam county spelling Bee is amazing. Loved playing Rona Lisa Perreti, but Doralee in 9 to 5 was probably my favorite musical character I've done. Might I add for anyone who likes Lord of the rings and musicals y'all need to look up Lord of the rings The musical. It's fantastic. I want to play Galadriel one day but sadly I have the build of a Hobbit.

Beth and I assumed the exact same thing XD. Will had an opportunity to create a devastating, instant change to the group dynamic, and decided to bond instead lol

Freddy - Chinese desserts - what about fried ice cream? Or is that a Western “Chinese” food?
