[Teen Talk] S2 Ep. 32 - Con Mayor
🕑 Added 2023-05-03 04:30:01 +0000 UTCThe Dad Crew sits down to talk about episode 32 of season two, including how Will brought this episode into existence, the difference between a prank and a scam, and everyone's memory of Jungle 2 Jungle.
Plus, they take some questions and get into strategies for staying motivated in the face of rejection, the notably off-putting dessert Freddie made during the pandemic (pic attached to this post), and the concept of the audience granting you one lie in storytelling. Then Beth blows everyone's mind by simply describing the new Adam Driver movie 65.

Deep breath if adam driver is an alien in 65 it's probably connected to the godzilla franchise where those aliens too look like humans in tinfoil clothes

“I thought SATs were a proper established thing some private enterprise” #normalization

Finally saw 65, neat to find out what the fuss was about. The 'twist' wasn't that crazy, the whole movie was super straight forward, I'm going to watch it with my dad

Thank you for doing the lord's work
Chris
As she said, it is surprisingly watchable. It's absolutely full of tropes, it is extremely milque-toast, but somehow, you can grab a bowl of popcorn and watch it. They should do a 'How Dad This Get Made' reach MBIC to it.

Matt: "This big American disagrees"

I can't believe for a fucking second that we got something like 65 AD, that made no sense and nobody gave a rats ass about, and had one of the most expensive working actors right now (so much so that MARVEL doesn't wanna pay his fee), but we can't get one season of animated VGHS. The rant reminded me there was also a Monster Hunter movie, and does anyone remember that?! No!!! God I love this industry
Samhain(saw-win)
I love y’all but that 65 rant was the most inane neurotypical everything needs to be human centric bs that every boring person spouts
Ruby L
Okay but counterpoint to 65 chat (3 months later): Time travel is overdone and boring and the aliens being so humanlike means you forget about it soon enough that it doesn't even matter.

Freddie is wrong about the Credit score thing: https://www.cnbc.com/select/when-did-credit-scores-start/

Without seeing the picture of Freddy's cheesecake, I will say that my mum once made some cookies and mixed up the salt ratio -- she thought they were awful and was going to throw them away, but my friends and I LOVED them, and a decade later my friends still ask for the recipe. So sometimes the things that you think may be mistakes are actually just not to your own taste!

i went to a powerpoint party once and did a 5min powerpoint on the history of the word milf 😤🫡

It did feel weird to me that the portal closed immediately. Like that's the first portal in this whole show to do that. And it made sense that it was a retcon.

As an accountant I'd like to let people know you can get 3 free credit checks a year. If you go to the irs website it'll link you to 3 place that will perform the check for free once each.
Jack
Can’t lie the teen talk was better than episode 😂. Genuinely enjoyed the credit score info too (shout out Freddie with the fun facts)!

Re: babies saying “baby” as one of their first words I have two older siblings, their first words were “mama” and “dada” respectively Everyone in the family loved to point out (especially while I was an obnoxious teen) my very first word was “mine.”
Katherine
I had to watch 65 because I simply could not comprehend the premise of the plot Beth described, and she was so right in every aspect.

i'm not quite sure what I expected when opening a jpeg called "freddiesdessert", and yet i was still underwhelmed. needs more cheese and orange peels.

Credit to Amir's acting! The audition one seems so brutal even when you know it's not real.

Listening I was like "how much can a cheesecake even look like a cheeseburger?" and it turns out ... a lot. It can look a lot like a cheeseburger, goddamn.
bbsincere
listening with my brains and eat some tonk! love this podcast, it's so books!
Lorelei The Succubus and Kyra her busty Queen
The first time I had to hear the baby shark time too beth, very upset afterwards
Brandon Pike
Yall have talked about some deep things about personal effort and giving it your all and it being ok. I needed this. Also I got my Daddies mug today. It's a good day. Love yall
Auzzy
What a dumbass comment
J.S.
Well now I want to know about The Witcher pitch, why would you show it to me if I can’t have it?
Joel Kent
And that, is the real fuckin scam
Max Wilson
Showed my wife the trailer for 65 and asked her what she thought it was about. She even said time travel. I was like, “YA! You’d think that, right!? NOPE!” 🤣
Jenna
The last 5minutes had me laughing so hard 😂

When I stopped expecting Teen Talks to come out on Tuesdays and just started looking for them on Wednesdays, my whole outlook on Teen Talks changed. For those who are mad at the lateness of these dropping should try it.
Evan Cordero
For the movies sake, I hope not
Kyle Thompson
I don’t think that’s actually what the planet is called

For anyone interested by the conversation about the One Lie in writing, I had a writing professor who taught it this way: “If all the small details are historically and emotionally accurate to the human experience, you can make them believe any big lie that you want”
Troy Schuler
Freddie telling stories on standardized tests! The ACT did see a huge boost in aughts/tens (his explanation of why is afaik pretty correct and did spur the SAT to remodel itself, which it’s doing again this year) , but the SAT is still typically a bit more popular. The ACT also has a boost bc many states require taking it. For students who are prepping hard it depends now-the SAT is more universally superscored (you combine best scores in sections across tests), the ACT has harder content which encourages some students to prefer it bc there’s more room for error on the curve.
Hattie Thomson
omg one of the first times i was like yep Definitely heard this story before LOL
glizzy_god
You say that like you can’t complain about stuff you pay for/ listen to?
TJ The Goob King
Beth May is a shark. And over on Hey Riddle Riddle Erin Keif is a shark, aka a ShErin, aka Erin with shark eyes. Coincidence? I think not! Beth and Erin Animorphed themselves the day before recording these respective podcasts.
Chris Winnek
Love the content! Unrelated kinda but I'm getting into painting miniatures this summer bc of Matt's couple of MBICs
Xailin Ortiz
My dude really paying for content just to complain about it when it’s completely free elsewhere
Red Hansen
as a person who has also enjoyed the insanity of 65, I highly recommend you check out moonfall - craziest high grade movie I’ve ever seen (the moon is a machine)
Ian Serkez
Freddy's idea for the festival show has me in tears 🤣
Patrick Reilly
I am losing my damn mind over this 65 rant.
Philip Enders Arden
You could not provide me enough evidence to disprove the idea that 65 was not meant to be Scientologist propaganda and that the premise is entirely serious to their deranged beliefs.
Evan Cordero
I was out on 65 as soon as Beth said the aliens were from Zip Zorp. That's a terrible name for a race of aliens. That's some Rick and Morty shit right there
Rachael Knapp
That’s exactly my reaction to opening the jpeg first 😂
Jago1996
Just so you know. Streeter and amir stated on "if I were you" podcast that those were all faked. They originally started by making clearly fake pranks. But people believed them. So they decided to keep it going.
Zoe Wrath
Thanks for mentioning Jungle Jungle was a remake of a French movie bc that was the version I saw as a kid (all I remember now is the main theme was good)
Katherine
The Kobayashi Maru of children's games 😂😂😂😂 Also that failure talk is so good for everyone in any career.
Joshua Morales
Not even seen the movie 65 and only seen the trailer still knew Adam Driver was from another alien. Maybe it's because I've seen to many Anicent Aliens.
Reve
The rant about the zib zorbians was the best part 😭
Alex

When Freddy described the cheeseburger cake I didn't think it would be that upsetting but it truly is now that I've seen the photo.

Fuck you guys for not making decisions to make the situation easier, but I love you all for staying in character. I guess I’m saying fuck you guys (gender neutral), but I love you all. My favorite group of idiots I boast about in social situations and then immediately ostracized because I’m running in non dnd/improv friend groups. >.<
Ivan Ramirez
Is that cheese?
Dorian
Its still the sat though?

I was in my last year of international high school in China when the Asian cheating scandal happened. It was nerve racking trying to apply to colleges when I didn't know my score
megatronshairytrigger
Grain of salt because I haven't listened to this yet...but man...super late post. Will's character has been plot sidelined so far. Matt and Freddy( glen stuff was hilarious) have been phoning it in. Beth is the only one with any real growth, but her character is classic problematic tabletop anti party character. Guys I love y'all and I want it to be better. Don't know why it's not clicking, but in all honesty...it's just not.
Emily Hassett
I downloaded the .jpeg before listening to the episode .... I am concerned 😟
Doug
You guys are awesome, 🤣🤣🤣
Joshua Johnso
Great episode
