Some BS Deity

Good luck to the both of them. Eleanor should add some spice to everything.

Wandering Agent

Those do not exist.

Johannes Oest

While i agree that there are more people in these kind of structures than there should be i really don't like it in this context. I have seen a lot of teachers that can be like it is shown here you can't really compare it. To start with most teachers are only like this to people that can't "defend" themselves against this kind of treatment. If the person has connections or the parents have money etc most teachers go out of their way to treat this person at least not worse than the normal one. Secondly he is not some random teacher. He leads the shield in the capital. Unless your world is 100% different than everything in our world only people get to this position if they can further the interest of the church. Either by being a "holy" figure that everyone likes or by being smart about how they interact with other people so they don't make enemies. They want more donations and kids to stay with them to further their believe. They don't gain anything by making enemies of their wards. So for him to go out of his way to make an enemy out of Alana even though she helped rescue the prince, helped a general in a fight and has multiple people that have a great interest in her is just stupid. He will make enemies if she hates him because she will have connections. So his attitude breaks my immersion into the story every single time. I really like the story but this point really annoys me. This is not a critic to your writing in general. Just that you should keep his position in mind when portraying him like this. It makes no sense. He gains nothing from it and can loose a lot. And people in power don't tend to do this kind of things. They abuse the people without power and try to be friends with the people that have power or potential. Sorry for the rant and my bad english.

If we go by the Dnd definition of Warlocks, then someone who has made a deal with a powerful magical entity in order to gain a portion of it's magical prowess

Wandering Agent

Not that someone couldn't try to tame a monster, just that there isn't magic specifically for it.

Wandering Agent

It is the same as wizard/bard. There are priests who focus on nature, but you'd have to be specific about warlocks. As for tamers no.

Choboman

What's the deal with Priest magic? Do they have 'divine' type spells, or are they just wizards and bards with a different focus? And if divine, how do they level up in power? Are there different other types of magicians also? Druids? Warlocks? Tamers?

Bridie

I feel bad for the Bishop having to deal with all that, but I guess it goes with management. Thanks for the chapter!

I agree that it's getting frustrating to read. I thought we were passed the major arcs devoted to her autonomy being limited due to her being a child. While it makes perfect sense that a character her age would be constantly facing these issues, having that struggle play a central role in the conflict generation of the story for over the length of a typical book gets repetitive. I can appreciate the characterization of the Shield being like school administration who, while ostensibly meaning the best, grate horribly when you're the recipient of their "care". Logically that is honestly pretty good character writing and most likely the intent, however, it does nothing to assuage my dropping excitement to read the upcoming domestic parent/child-esque dynamic conflict. When Dias (sp?) went to the academy I was expecting something like a time skip or montage of her passing the time before it was her time to go to the academy. While Jackson's return, the balls, Alana's minor crush, a new potential friend, and the mana eater were not what I expected, they were genuinely interesting and in contrast make me dread what I envision is coming with Eleanor. Perhaps I am wrong though, this story has been great so far and I haven't been dissapointed yet.

Wandering Agent

That has not yet been addressed.

DANTE

thanks for the chapter, I hope the Eleanor lady get a nice fack you, if you don't like my arrangement someone else can take your place. the golden rule of negotiation is do not give what you don't want to give and walk away if you dint like the deal

Leviathon251

'We'll have to stay together if I'm to keep an eye on you' - oh no 🤣

Stephen Pearson

Nice, a 2-fer! Thanks for the chapters:-)

Robert Mullins

I like these kinds of characters. Sort of the opposite of the affably evil trope. They're a genuine force for good in the world and are making great contributions to society and the well being of children specifically. They just happen to be complete dicks about the whole thing. Sort of like a Dr House of the charity and child services world. The only difference is we are now seeing doctor house from the POV of a patient.

Wandering Agent

Sorry about that, for whatever reason the line breaks don't transfer over at all. It should be fixed now.

Jachin Nelson

Thank you for the chapter. You should put some kind of break, or indication that your switching Pov

Wandering Agent

They are literally the worst parts of power structures who think you need a nanny. In her case they are sort of right, in that if she weren't who she is she'd probably need a lot more help. They're just big giant dicks about it, because they have the power and the true belief that they're absolutely correct. Think back about most of the school administrators you met as a child. Because the overwhelming majority of the ones I knew kinda sucked.

Guessed

God these people are assholes. It's getting kind of frustrating to read, I dearly hope Alana puts her foot down and establishes some proper boundaries.
