This iMac holds a special place in my heart. Apple was circling the drain at the end of the '90s and my parents were considering switching the family computer to a more economical Windows PC. When Steve Jobs unveiled the original iMac, it was proof positive that Apple and the Mac were *cough* "Still Alive". We ended up getting one. Later in its life the optical drive wouldn't run if it was too cold. We had a hair dryer next to the computer to rapidly heat it up and get it going. Totally normal?

I'm hoping it's one of two quick fixes that should be in the video on Friday. Otherwise, replacing the flyback is tough mainly because you need to find the exact same one. (AFAIK)

It'll be interesting to see what the flickering issue is. I have a slot-loading G3 that I wanted to play around with a few months ago, but the screen was snapping pretty badly and I didn't want to fry something so I just unplugged it. If those non-replacement repairs are simple enough, I might try them out on mine.
