Recapping is probably all you should need for the Macintosh TVs if there is no visible damage on the MLB. When I first got mine from the original owner she had had to take it off of eBay on the day it was to be sold because the HDD had died. I was able to pick it up locally and spare it from the wrath of UPS. I managed to unstick the drive for one last boot and imaged it shortly before it failed entirely. Once I was able to recap the board it seemed to stabilize and it's been reliable ever since. I believe it shipped with both variants of the Apple remote depending on when you bought it (and the retail box version of the tuner card). Very similar to the Performa 638CD

Neat! I remember seeing the Mac TV in a magazine back in the day and of course I wanted one. I could play Mac games AND SNES games on it. :p

I have a similar problem with an LC 575. Its board has been recapped, and it worked for a while. One day the soft power did not work. I will be interested to see how your troubleshooting goes.
