Jeppe Fiig

oh wow, Alana did pull her punches here, though she would snap the portal close while he was going through, but burning him alive while choking him yeah O.o nice

Matthew Dennis

None of these characters seemed particularly politically savvy though

Melting Sky

Alana, her mentor, and her family actually stand in a strong position to overthrow the Empress if it comes down to it. Within their little close-knit group, you have the man that stands at the head of the mages, the top magic researcher in the empire, and the general in charge of the military.

Melting Sky

That was very clever foreshadowing. This was a great chapter, btw.

Pretty easy to spin honestly, EX: She could defeat the other Physical, why did she not assist Durin? Clearly she wanted him dead! It all depends on how the Ocean will react when there is blood in it, will they unite or be torn apart. I feel a bit anxious and exhilarated to what is coming.

Matthew Dennis

Y’all can’t discount mystien. He will be the authority for a number of strong casters and he wouldn’t tolerate scapegoating Alana.

Melting Sky

Yeah, that's a good point. The political scene is going to be an outright shark-feeding frenzy after this and as figures near the top of the command chain, Alana, her old mentor, and her family are going to have to either sink, swim or get out of the water in order not to end up as chum, like the Emperor. Alana's involvement in the death of the Emperor certainly could be spun negatively if somebody in charge of the investigation decided to fudge some facts.

Wandering Agent

In the previous chapter the perspectives were all from one side, the losers of each fight.

Emyr

Yes precisely. Regardless of how she feels about Alana's involvement with Durin's death, I think she will potentially want to eliminate her as a wildcard just to be safe. Durin also mentioned to the Queen that Alana is still keeping one or more things secret from him as well.

Maliticus

This state of affairs does not bode well at all for the empire. I honestly hope that Alana and her family decide to wash their hands of this and go live with the elves for awhile. Alana, and her brother, have spent their entire lives being dragged around, hounded, starved, and forced to fight by the powers that be. Under Durin they at least had a decent cause to work for, but that doesn't really change the fact that they didn't have much choice but to help that cause.

Maliticus

Sky's point assumes that the queen won't have the scene kept under wraps and use the opportunity to get rid of a wild card. The queen was unstable at best and now the man who secured her power and authority has died because of a technology that Alana let fall into enemy hands. I could easily see the queen using this as an excuse to vent her imponent rage. Durin was the only one actually trying to have just rule. The rest of the old aristocrats are going to fall on the empire like a carrion swarm. Not to mention the surrounding nations.

Melting Sky

The queen may be skeptical, but the crime scene paints a pretty clear picture. Two dead bodies, both were elite physical magic users. Durin died to a blade wielded by a powerful physical caster whereas the rogue prince died quite obviously via a powerful bard or possibly a wizard. The massive ethanol-fueled fire and lightning bolt damage to his armor probably left enough clues behind to make it clear it wasn't "normal" fire magic that took him out and it certainly wasn't a physical caster.

Emyr

Hello shit that got my heart rate going. The Queen’s actions are going to be quite important now. Remember that Durin confided in her his difficulty trusting Alana before he decided to believe more in her and take a risk. The Queen is way less forgiving.

Melting Sky

I never saw Durin's death coming. I literally had to read that death scene twice to make sure I hadn't just slipped up somehow and gotten the wrong impression of who the victor was. I kept waiting for it to be an illusion or a gimmick until she slipped on his blood. This is a huge game-changer. The million-dollar question is "Who will fill the power vacuum?"

Michael Stiller

absolutly bloddy and justyfied. Liked that chappie. Can't wait to see what happens next with durin dead. Will she repeat the same mistakes her earthen predesessor made and take the crown her self? ...

Michael Bradet-Legris

Didn't expect Lief to be so strong and for Durin to kick the bucket. This is going to make quite the mess.
