I also love that everybody knows the Buttonfly demo less from the actual IRIX application and more from the main menu in Super Mario 64. In fact, it's remarkable how much better it runs on a $250 console from 1996 than it does on a much later $6k-$16k O2. Higher resolutions were a BIG problem in 3D for a very long time.

You've definitely seen the double staggered pads on an edge connector before, but maybe not in a memory chip. That's how AGP was arranged so it could have more communications lines to the motherboard than PCI in the same space. (PCI-E gets around this by just having stricter tolerances and smaller pads - something the manufacturing processes of the SGI era couldn't really accomplish.)

I think you may have the balance right on the edits - this one seems a bit toned-down on the special effects to a point where they're helping rather than distracting. That O2 is much cooler than I thought it would be! I wonder if you can use the video in with a different camera rather than the O2 webcam just to test out the video conferencing.

You misquoted the JP scene. lol.. it's "It's a Unix system! I know this!" vs "It's a Unix machine! I knew I knew this!". The scene is 1h53m into the movie (i.e. close to the end). Cool video as always!

To be fair, you have physical access to the machine and a recovery CD, so of course it's easy! ;) Super cool machine
