I think taking into account how people were raised and the fact they want to change is important, but also to tell them what they're doing wrong, because otherwise they'll never learn. Demian's mom has good intentions, but even with her good intentions she was all "this doesn't make me happy, bla bla" so this conversation was very much necessary. At least now she became fully aware she was hurting Demian.

“I’m sorry I’m not perfect” is such a manipulative deflection when someone calls you out on a mistake 🙄 I hope she learns to listen instead of get defensive. I have a tote bag for situations like this - it says “I don’t care how you were raised, unlearn that shit” 😆
