It hadn't been a bad day. In the morning he'd had tea with Ragnar, and later Ethan had brought him flowers for the bedroom window they shared. In the afternoon he had been playing cards with the Raven sisters and Todd, and Todd had made him laugh until his stomach hurt.
Skye didn't understand why such a normal and seemingly happy day had left him feeling strangely anxious.
It was already dark by the time Skye closed the front desk. Ethan had been setting up a wooden swing by the lake all afternoon, and since Skye hadn't seen him come in, he assumed he would still be there despite the hours, so he set off to find him so they could go to bed together.
Stepping outside the house, Skye came upon the wagon where Ethan was planting strawberries. It was new, the previous one having been burned by the first Wild Beast a year ago, and Skye felt a pang of resentment as he remembered Lars.
“Ah,” thought Skye. ”That's right, it makes one year today.”
A year since their home had been reduced to ashes by two crazy people whom they had welcomed with kindness and respect. One year since Skye felt like he was dying as he watched the house collapse on the love of his life. Normally he tried not to think about it, especially since he and Ethan had very different feelings regarding Lars, but it had been a year ago that day and the memory had managed to slip through the cracks in his formidable mental stability.
The unpleasant feeling gave way to a warm peace when he saw Ethan gazing at the stars above the perfectly finished swing. As he approached him, Skye thought it was impossible for there to be anyone so perfect on the entire planet.
“Hey,” he said with a smile to get his attention. “It's really late, aren't you tired?”
“Skye,” Ethan replied, clearly happy to see him. “I was waiting for you to come, I wanted to show you my work.”
Skye sat down next to him, very close to him even though the swing had room for at least three people.
“It's beautiful, I love it.”
Before he could say more, Ethan held his face in his hands and kissed him. Although it caught Skye by surprise, he certainly wasn't going to complain. Skye rested his hands on his chest and kissed him back, exploring his mouth gently with his tongue.
“You waited for me to make love to me on the new swing? How daring,” Skye whispered to him between kisses and giggles. Ethan turned red as a tomato.
“N- it's not that, I just wanted...” Ethan cleared his throat. “I just wanted us to be the first to kiss here. It's a very romantic place, I'm sure a lot of people will come for that.”
Skye lowered the hand he had resting on Ethan's chest to his crotch, where he could feel a more than obvious bulge.
“Just kissing? No sex?” he asked him innocently as he stroked him over his clothes.
Ethan took a sharp intake of breath and let it out slowly, closing his eyes. He seemed to like what Skye was doing to him, so he continued.
“Nh... I'm afraid we'll break it on the first day,” Ethan told him, stroking his cheek and clearly not wanting him to stop. Skye let out a little giggle and climbed into his lap, sitting on his erection.
“We'll have to do this very carefully then,” Skye whispered to him before kissing him again.
Ethan wrapped his arms tightly around him and Skye felt his pelvis thrusting against his buttocks. Taking his clothes off and feeling him inside started to become a necessity as their tongues intertwined tasting each other.
“Skye, I think...” Ethan paused, but before he finished the sentence he stood up grabbing Skye by the buttocks and deposited him on the grass, leaving the weight of his own body on top of the rabbit. Ethan was big and strong, and Skye loved the feeling of having him on top of him.
“I'm not going to be able to control myself, so it's safer on the ground,” Ethan finished with his hands busy unbuttoning Skye's pants.
Skye nuzzled the back of his neck, letting himself be undressed. “Don't control yourself.”
Ethan finished removing his pants and positioned himself between his legs, pushing in to penetrate him. Skye let out a moan and his fingers closed around Ethan's hair.
“Yeah, like that,” he thought as Ethan took him with more abandon than usual. Normally Ethan was the careful, quiet lover who made him see stars through control, but that night Skye needed him to be wild, to erase all the bad memories with kisses and sex.
“Nh... Skye...”
They looked into each other's eyes as their bodies melted into one and Skye felt that maybe Ethan needed the same, that maybe he wasn't the only one that the memory of that day would cause nightmares for the rest of his life. Skye hugged him tightly and nibbled on his lip as he kissed him.
“Don't stop... Ah, ah... Ethan...”
He knew it wouldn't be long before he orgasmed, so he pressed his forehead against Ethan's and tried to keep his eyes open to look at him as much as possible. Bad thoughts could go to hell, Ethan was fine, happy and warm in his arms.
“I love you, Skye,” Ethan moaned against his lips, causing Skye to shudder and climax arching his back into the grass. He saw his cry muffled by a deep, passionate kiss that nearly took his breath away. As he kissed him, Skye felt Ethan's seed spilling inside him and every muscle in his body tensing with pleasure. He hugged him tighter to feel the strong beat of his heart against his own chest.
They both gasped, catching their breath. Ethan lay there on top of him as Skye stroked his back.
“Are you okay?” asked Ethan in a sleepy voice.
“Better than ever,” was the answer he got followed by a little kiss on the cheek.
There was silence and Skye felt Ethan snuggle his head against his hair.
“It's been a year since I almost died and two since you almost died,” Ethan finally said with what little energy he had left. “I hope the next thing threatening to die is a plant.”
Skye couldn't help but laugh. “And yet I know you'd save it.”
They finally got dressed and returned to Wild Beast ready to rest, though Skye didn't have to walk as Ethan insisted on carrying him if he was tired and Skye thought it was the most wonderful idea in the world.
Once in their new bed, Skye soon fell asleep against his chest, absorbed in his calm breathing.
It hadn't been a bad day after all.

Author's note:
In the story it is mentioned that Skye and Ethan have very different feelings regarding Lars, which is why they don't usually talk about him. While Skye hates him with all his soul, Ethan feels sadness when he thinks of him as the friend he could not save. Even though Lars is actually quite happy after everything that happened (because now Axel is traumatized and needs him badly, which is all Lars desires), Ethan doesn't really know that. I think most readers saw Lars the way Ethan does (a victim), and just a few saw him the way Skye does (a toxic adult accountable for his choices). I'm among the second (laughs).

I am also amongst the second group of people who believes Lars should be held accountable for his poor choices. Even if he was a victim, he knew better.😬It was a traumatizing time for both of these cuties but I’m glad they find comfort in each other!😭❤️I love that each of these scenes are both spicy but heartfelt with the context and underlying themes🥹✨

Ethan and Skye are gunna be just fine. All those bad memories will eventually be of no consequence to them; not when their love is stronger. Oh and side note, I’m one of the rarer fans who sees Lars as both. I feel for him as a victim, but will not forgive his toxicity he created.
