I liked the previous seasons, and the improv. Didn't always agree with certain decision, but as a whole I enjoyed it. This specifically bothers me, because it seemed too harsh of a tonal shift. Especially when considering how much effort Will put in previous episodes to set up a scary, weighty, dangerous story. The season itself is called "The Peachyville Horror." And Will was pretty good as keeping it framed as that, but now it's kind of Jumped the shark as far as what I can see them apply as canon, and still care at all about what happens in the story. I almost prefer Tony died, because now he's kind of a joke. Even with how Freddy's trying to play his behavior after surviving what he went through, it's just "Yeah but, he's a talking cat turned Human with two Nazi sympathizer dads and" Again, we'll see how it goes. Maybe they'll just sweep it under the rug like they did several other things in the previous seasons, after the joke was no longer funny. Maybe they won't. I will say though, Anthony's roleplay has consistently been the best part of this season so far, and resulted in the biggest laughs and entertainment at how well he's playing.

I see what you’re saying in terms of yeah you won’t take Freddy’s character as serious anymore because of the joke backstory but like I said bro at the end of the day majority of what they do is improv’d and they put comedy above all else cause this is a comedy podcast not meant to be taken serious regardless of who the DM is and what the story is they’ve done it all throughout S1&2 with some of the ridiculous and absurd shit they came up w on the fly in there I expected no less from season 3 just cause Will was taking the DM role it’s still the same cast who say what they say and do what they do for laughs whether it’s for their laughs or our laughs just laugh and move on. You are deeply, deeply misunderstanding my issue. All the other characters are grounded "Enough" in logic, compared to the world that they are from. One where Eldritch creatures exist. Will actually talked about this in the last peach pit, where he wanted Trudy's revelation that she was a robot to be played correctly, and how that scene is important for when a person finds out the world has things beyond their previous understanding of the world. The difference with all the other things that are a bit silly, but believable, is that Tony's backstory is now literally a joke. Just throw in as a joke, during a painfully unfunny improv snowballing down a hill. Sure, it probably brought out a laugh, in the "Ha! That's Really REALLY stupid! That's pretty funny! Oh wait, they're still going, oh wait, wait they're serious. Wait they're making the obviously stupid joke part of the story. Wait they're making the completely stupid, ridiculous joke, meant to be a joke, and they're now making it part of this character forever... Oh. That's kind of, lame."

Teenager who scooped out a thug's eyes in defence of his friend. Again, played as partial horror. Mothman was originally played as horror, and is slowly being made into a joke. All of this made sense in the realm of a call of Cthulhu campaign. Nothing was too absurd or silly. Sure, as expected things were played in silly ways, that's what's fun about the DnDads crew. Tony's backstory being hijacked and turned into a continually worsening joke, was unfunny. And pulled me out of the episode. Legitimately had to put it on 1.5x just to get through that part. But, the season is now irreparably changed. Maybe it won't ruin the tone, maybe it will. As of now, it's making every scene it's mentioned in, unfunny and without any weight. Like everything is a joke, instead of "We're not taking it too seriously, but it's still a story and things matter."

Letting everyone improv Tony's backstory kind of, ruined the story. None of it feels weighty anymore, like anything matters. Because now whenever Tony is involved I have to remember "Oh yeah, every other character has a grounded, interesting background, but Tony is a Cat turned Human with two Nazi supporting Dads and they actually killed the original Tony and" I kinda just, don't care now? If not for Francis being such an amazingly hilarious character, I'd probably abandon this season here.
