Came here from the future to say that the podcast does get back on track a bit, but I still skip this episode whenever I relisten. This one in particular crosses the line of Matt + Anthony being so combative that Will’s plans are derailed in a way that is more painful/ boring to listen to than it is funny. Players should be allowed to derail a GMs plans here and there in good faith, but this one goes too far, though other episodes this season have certainly come close. For all those who don’t see it: the pyramid moment in season 1 wouldn’t have happened if the players hadn’t played ball with Anthony’s plans to a degree.

I know players are meant to mess with the DM's plans, but this sounded more like they never wanted to hear Will's plans because they deemed Jenkins a Nazi(?). Every time Will tried to explain the world through Jenkins Matt and Anthony just shut him up. For me it was hard to listen to this episode where as other times it was at least bareable.

Oh, they messed with Anthony’s plans too. It is very common in RPGs for the players to go a different path from the DMs vision. He’ll adjust the story based on decisions they’ve made along the way. It’s all just part of the game.

Guys please let Will get through his ideas! I know you have your moments but there's a time and a place. I think Will needs to set some ground rules with these guys. Like when he's world building or explaining something don't interrupt or if someone wants to chime in they put a hand up and he calls on them. We can't HEAR it so it won't break anything, but the constant bickering between Will and Anthony is so aggrivating I had to leave the live listen and skip to the end cause that's when everyone shuted up! It has nothing to do with Will’s story or DM ability and has everything to do with Matt and Anthony being antagonistic and arguing with Will about every call he makes. It’s super clear that they don’t respect him as a DM and they’re the ones making this season almost unbearable. Take for instance when Will was trying to move the narrative along through a helpful NPC and Anthony shoots him in the head just so he and Matt can continue fucking arguing about what to leave on the carving. Or if you want another example, then listen to when Matt threw a temper tantrum because his alphabet idea didn’t work and wasted 10 minutes arguing about it instead of respecting the call the DM made and moving on.

I really don't get the comments telling them to get their shit together. We are on episode 15, and I trust Will as a GM to bring it all together in the end. Just enjoy how bonkers this is, there are dinosaurs and bigfoots, russian spies and robots. It's hilarious to listen to how derailed it can be, it's true to life with a close group of friends messing about with each other.

Clearly I'm late to the party seeing earlier comments, but the alphabet argument at the top of the episode was the final straw for me this season. I love Will's DM ideas, storytelling, and exposition, but Matt (and sometimes Anthony) constantly picking it all apart for whatever reason is driving me crazy. They've been so contentious so often that it's hard to listen to, and as a DM it hurts to hear someone act that way. I like the side content enough to keep my Patreon subscription for now, but if the only time there's no tension is when Matt gets what he wants, I'll have to reconsider.

It's getting hard to listen sometimes. I love all these guys work but in an earlier peach pit Freddy stated their problem is that they don't really respect each other at the table. It's become more and more evident with the constant talking over each other and not really going along with whoever being the game master. It's making it more infuriating that they'd rather bicker and derail plans than trust the process and road in front of them. I know it's a collaborative story but it's getting a little ridiculous. That said those antics in the shorter form content is great for that stuff where it doesn't really matter but for a longer story trying to be weaved, I'll pass. I wish them the best but I don't think this is the podcast for me anymore.

These past episodes have been so bad that i can’t justify paying for the patreon, untill something changes. The DM’ing sets up too open ended scenarios, but then clearly assumes a very specific course of action from the players. The players (Matt and Anthony) constantly interrupt and spend 80% of the episode bickering and avoiding interacting with the world, assuming any far fetched idea to be accepted and work out.

yeah i’m more talking about the reaction of the group than the story there. hate-able characters are bad exposition. happened with my group when i was a player in my friends Alien game. the Weyland-Yutani corporate guy was soooo hateable because of my GM’s roleplay and we had basically the same situation as this episode! ended up with him ass beat in a closet unable to contribute in the way my GM wanted him to. he was the only person to escape tho lmao. my friend read the whole ripley monologue from the end of alien but replaced the names and locations with this fuuuucking asshole. had us screaming from the grave at the end lmao

I agree with much of this. The listener paid the price this episode. You guys spent so much time trying to mess with Will's plans - instead of a cool museum aside or whatever else Will mentioned, we got almost two full episodes of arguing in a single room trying to get a key. Its not to say it wasn't entertaining, but the pacing of this season has screeched to a halt in favor of arguing over trying to avoid doing stuff.

the problem with this episode is twofold: this scenario gives too much freedom. it was ambitious, but very difficult to resolve in a satisfying way. it removes the opportunity for memorable named characters. probably best for a game that’s not a show! from one GM to another, respect on the effort. the second and by far the biggest problem with the episode was the players. seems like y’all forgot you were recording a show that has a narrative for a couple episodes! i’m all for derailing the GMs plans in a normal game but y’all made the media you produced worse even if you took the most logical route. Will deserves more grace as a newer GM. beyond that, attempts at serious roleplay went out the window pretty damn hard to the point trudy forgot about her damn child! in danger! tldr a combination of an over ambitious but fun narrative and a cast that seemingly forgot they were trying to construct a narrative together brought this episode crashing down. will, don’t be afraid to railroad a little. everyone else, give will a chance to railroad a little. the path through the mountain pass looks faster but it took a lot of blood and sweat to build that railroad tunnel and you’ll feel better on the other side.

this is my favourite season so far because of the story so i really hope they let Will cook and that he brings a lot of the stuff the party has dismissed (like that kid's eyeballs??) back to bite them. I agree with folks saying it can be hard to hear Will getting shut down especially when it's a story I'm into and want to see progress. The show will always be funny, these are funny people, but it's the gut punch story moments that keep me coming back for more.

The whole thing is iffy and weird but the first time he was a least a bit remorseful and showed some actual personality but the character has just evolved into school shooter and not only is it not really funny, it's just bad for the story. None of the characters give a shit that hes killing people and that doesn't feel at all genuine to their personalities from the first few episodes. He either needs to have some major character development or they need to scrap the character all together cause the psychopath trope doesn't fit. I'm usually fine with "edgy" shit but even I think it's in bad taste. I dont think they should play underage characters in general either.

They all need to get on the same page. In previous seasons Anthony could set up a ‘mini game’ for the episode and everyone was generally okay with going along with that. The only time that’s really worked this season was the boxing match which was great. Is this a game where Will can present them with a ruleset or is this just comedy antics with an ever diminishing eldritch presence? Either is fine but something needs to be picked.

I have to admit that my European mind went automatically: "Oh, you mean like the US in 2024?" Which is to say that yeah, I get your point -- I guess that Anthony knows what he is doing, but I often feel a bit uncomfortable around Francis, too.

Honestly it’s not just been the last two imo, but nearly the whole season. The entire group has been very antagonistic towards eachother’s characters and Will. It has swung from some really interesting points like with Trudy, to Francis shooting an NPC in cold blood to seemingly just spite Will. Really hope they course correct because it does get incredibly boring and frustrating to hear them just spin their wheels to screw over the DM.

As a DM myself, I would feel so hurt if my players went absolutely out of their way to not do anything I’ve put work into. I get it’s a “theme” with this podcast, haha jokes funny, but it feels like this season is turning into just “fuck Will’s plans” and the story itself is taking a backseat to the trolling. Idk, these past two eps were just so hard to listen to. I could find reasons to love everything else they’ve done but if the season continues this way, I won’t be able to stick around.

Just wanted to put that out there. Idk how Will has survived these past two painfully boring episodes. Boring all bc it’s sooooo “funny” to do nothing the DM plans. 😒
