Bro as someone who used to live in Temecula until last year the traffic jams are hands down the worst. It is an armpit in SoCal between San Diego and LA. Plus they were doing construction on the 215 when I left and that made it much worse.

Monster of the Week is a pretty simple system - my players like the fact that (almost) every episode we played had a conclusion in solving the mystery/killing the monster, but still there were character arcs that went on for the whole campaign Felt like a tv series

If you all do another system for a one-shot or maybe even campaign and are considering something space-based, you should absolutely consider Mothership! It's a dystopian space horror based more on the old-school roleplay style systems, so it lends itself well to audio based programs as there is a ton of room for narrative combat and interactions. It's a ton of fun and has a lot of really cool elements that draw influence from things like SCP, for example. Death is a big part of the game, and combat is very punishing but exciting. I think it would fit your all's play style super well, especially with how Anthony described issues with complexity in systems.

I feel like you guys could do some real fun stuff with DIE. It's a full system but pretty simple overall with mechanics built around a lot of freedom and character. Basically you play people playing a TTRPG and get sucked into it, but the actual system itself could be used however you want.

Suggestion for Grandads in Space. The Stargate TtRPG by Wyvern games is really good. It runs mostly like DnD but has classes races and backgrounds that fit a sci fi space adventure a lot better. Instead of finding loot the party can requisition gear from their parent organization before missions and it adds Moxie to make social encounters more dynamic and meaningful. You'd want to change the names of the races and aliens since they are all from the Stargate Franchise but it would be a fun system to listen to in my opinion.
