I always go back to the ant parallel- an ant finding itself inside a computer won’t go mad. It’ll be confused but it won’t go mad, it’s understanding what a computer is that would ruin it. Speaking of millennial bands/songs that can be DND characters, I once made a changeling named blink (as in you blink and they're somebody else). We were playing death house (curse of strahd) and I would ask the DM if there were any tiny objects in the room for me to collect. This goes on for weeks and weeks cause we're idiots and bullshit rather than play DnD for the 2 hours a week We get to play together. Anyway, we get to our first combat and as the bard I go to inspire someone by dumping out all 182 tiny objects I had collected and singing "All the small things." 10/10, best joke I've ever done in DND.

It's interesting that Anthony thinks "The Colour Out of Space" doesn't work. It's perhaps my favourite of his stories, and Joyce Carol Oates also wrote a great essay on Lovecraft in which she argues that 'Colour' might be his best story. Ultimately, I think it comes down to the fact that, despite all the grandstanding, Lovecraft's gods and monsters are often not all that strange. (As a lapsed Catholic, I even sometimes find that there would be a strange comfort in the certainty that Gods exist, even if they're malevolent). The supernatural stuff in 'Colour' is different because it is incomprehensible. But, as always, YMMV. Full disclosure: despite thinking that Lovecraft's concepts weren't that scary, I fully understood why it's all so terribly messed up when I read Alan Moore's 'Providence', which is just a bit adjusted to modern sensibilities.

I've meet the bassist/ lead singer Max Collins of Eve Six randomly through my high school Spanish teacher's class. He told us he was terrible at academics and hated high school but his ol' Spanish teacher made it tolerable and let him sleep in class sometime.
