hahahahaha, This huge conversation started with such a stupid question that I expected to fly under everyone’s radar since it flew under mine. I believe the moral of this story is magic is complicated and has many different interpretations. In the end this is your character and he is yours to make, I’m sure he’ll be amazing in the story.

Arcane refers generally to normal mages and wizards. In D&D Arcane magic is divided to schools and each mage can specialize in one which also makes it impossible to use another school (some schools are oposed to each other) Ofcourse this does not stop a mage from bring able to study arcane magic as a whole. You also have divine magic that borrows power from a god or gods. This magic uses mostly curses and blessings and is associated with healing. Similar to that is nature magic used by Druids. Some may say that druid magic is more primal in nature. You can also have magic that uses or summons spiriths to augment one's abilities like for example Shamans.

Its not that he doesn't have any specialty, he is specialized in a school of magic that could be seen by incomplete. I am not going to go into much details so I wont spoil too much, but I was seeing arcane magic more like diablo arcane damage.

well, arcane isn’t really any magic in particular actually it’s more a broad term thats why i said school. when i think arane i think arcane arts. so magic and arcane are pretty much the same thing but i can look into the difference

Oh, never thought that those basic elements we mostly see are actually labeled as "Arcane" magic. Really thought it was something like a violet and dark colored magic haha. Gonna look into this, thanks for the deep insight and stating that The Forsaken One!

ahem what i meant in that last sentence was that I was expecting a reply along the lines of “you’ll have to wait and see” you now the kind of question you ask when you like something but don’t have a real question so you just say a question that is a standard cookie cutter grade.

but of course the actual details about your characters magic should be saved for the story. My question was just one I threw out not expecting an answer, becuase I actually want to be surprised and enjoy seeing well crafted magic.

yes yes, but there are so many types of magic one can pick from, I personally prefer picking an element or two and see were that takes me, and of course you have to take into account the kind of magic system your world has, since the difference between hard magic systems and soft magic systems are vastly different and affect what kind of magic you character can use. But if you want to focus on a school of magic you call arcane magic, than you need to think about what arcane magic can or can’t do. I enjoy making characters so I think pretty deeply about this kind of thing. Magic users are fun to make, but can get very complex.
