Very pleased that the earth didn't fall in when you watched this. Nice to see that it's not as difficult to follow as some of us worried it might be. It is just a workplace comedy after all, and shite politicians...well I believe they have them in other countries too. They've even reached America apparently. And of course, you guys had Parks and Rec too, which is brilliant and also about a subject that you'd think would turn audiences off. Not quite sure what to make of the negativity towards this in some of the comments. I feel like there's a little bit of reverse-snobbery here. Dislike of a show because of what it represents, or what its audience represents? Because otherwise IDK why a comment earlier in the thread ripping such a good show gets so many upvotes. Or it could just be general frustration that shows aimed at a similar audience, with a similar sense of humour(and sometimes even written by the same people, eg Partridge and this show) are being voted in; in which case it's just swings and roundabouts because plenty of us remember the long, dark winter nights of Come Fly With Me and others.

Glad to see this one won! Been about 10 years since I saw it. I did have an interest in politics in my 20's, and then various real life British politicians said that this show wasn't far from the truth. Put me right off

Show was written by Armando Iannucci (prob not correct spelling) he has a few of his own comedy shows which are great, time trumpet and the armando iannucci shows, along with veep, but he also co wrote Im Alan Partridge series 1 and 2,, this show is amazing though i rewatch it often,

Yeah, the main guy is called Malcolm Tucker, and is one of the all-time great comedy characters. He's actually based on a real spin-doctor for the Labour Party during the late 1990s and early 2000s named Alistair Campbell, who became a fan of the show and admitted that the depiction was mostly a fair one. Tucker's brilliance as a character (besides the endlessly quotable put-downs and one-liners) is that although he's a pure workplace bully on the surface, you occasionally get a glimpse of genuine political principles at his heart; he rarely treats ordinary working-class voters or minimum-wage employees with anything but respect and consideration, in contrast to the careerist politicians he browbeats, who have nothing but contempt for the average joe. He loves power far too much, but not for its own sake; he has a desire to change lives for the better, and will happily savage anyone who jeopardises that crusade through their own incompetence. It's very telling that Alistair Campbell approved of TV Malcolm with all his flaws and vices, but considered the film version a two-dimensional baddie.

There are obvs references around British gov that can be clarified for Josh, but the comedy comes from essentiallly, clumsy idiots trying to minimise their mess, and it never gets boring I promise 🤣

Well I gave it a go with an open mind and it's not for me. I couldn't even follow what was happening let alone even smile at any point. Absolutely awful. Just scenes of people talking over each other. I have Aspergers so it just sounds like noise when multiple people talk at once. Hopefully something I like will get voted in on the next few polls because otherwise I'll miss watching things with Josh.

Looking forward to the rest of this as I never did watch this religiously when it was originally on the telly. I did become a big Capaldi fan in later years from something else. It's those attack eyebrows for those in the know.

Something that is always referred to in real life is that the way our current government is going about making a mess of everything at the moment is that it's like "The Thick of It" or "Could be a scene from The Thick of It".

First (Sorry) Re: In The Loop - this came before the movie which was intended for a more international audience. It's slightly confusing as the two don't really tie in together and you've got different characters playing different roles between the two. My advice is just to Men in Black memory that film when watching this :P
