That was a weird way of pronouncing umbilical cord, I haven't heard it pronounced that way in England before. I think he was just trying to be a pretentious doctor

According to Google ultrasounds became widespread in the UK in the 70s. But I think it's more common over here than in the US for people not to find out the baby's sex until it's born, lots of people still prefer to have a surprise. Thinking of the last 3 women I know who were pregnant only one found out what she was having beforehand.

A wonderfully funny episode as you'd expect, but there are some really sweet moments too, that scene where Frank talks to Betty about his mother missing out on being a grandmother, pretty poignant.

Hadn't seen this one since 30+ years ago. I'd forgotten the whole birth bit; but some of the dialogue is tattooed in my brain, like: "the dog did a whoopsie in my Dahlias".
