The problem is that the anime didn't stay true to the manga. The manga states that Gyro will meet Gon in the future during the Gyro flashback and I guess since the anime was ending fairly soon they didn't bring it up.

I've mentioned this in previous episodes I believe, but the royal guards really do represent the many sides of a parent: Pitou prioritises Meruem's will/desires Youpi protects Meruem's physical well-being Pouf focuses on the expectations of their species and his own vision

lol it's so hard to convince others that Meruem is not Gyro no matter how many times I mention this. He's most likely introduced for future arcs. Togashi just does things like this. Like Greed Island was introduced before York New arc and it wasn't relevant until after the entire York New arc lol.
