How have you not watched Critical Role before yet know that Scanlan never uses Mythcarver?

They talked about it in the live watch along back in season two. The group consensus was that Kraven Edge might have been able to finish off Umbrasyll, but in doing so, Grog would have been pulverized and just a puppet of the sword at that point. Physically and mentally totally controlled, so would it REALLY be a win?

#sundayrundown I was immediately struck when he said, "one of you must wound me," knowing it would be Scan-man, though I expected a more mocking style than what actually happened. I really appreciated how Umbrasyl managed to get Mythcarver—it might even explain why Sam never ended up using it in the game. Even though I’ve never watched Critical Role before, I found this episode amazing, especially with that badass sphinx. Last week, I was stressing over Vex, and now I’m anxiously waiting to see what happens with Pyke this week. This episode feels like the biggest departure from the campaign yet: Umbrasyl surprises everyone through Ripley’s scrying, Kam dies, Mythcarver is taken, and the gang gets split during a Plane Shift to the Feywild. I love how the campaign/stream canon and the animated show canon, while similar, are clearly distinct—what happens in the animated show doesn’t affect the stream, something that was evident when we saw the Sun Tree confusion. I’m really eager to see how they handle the split party next week.

Grog 100% could not have taken Umbrasyll by himself. Umbrasyll was playing with his food. Notice how he didn't fly or shoot acid? There was not even KIND of a chance for Grog to win. Umbrasyll absolutely SMASHED the sphinx that Grog couldn't even lay a finger on.
