Jemma and I have been using/doing NOOM for 4 weeks and it's been difficult but effective! Basically you just help understand your relationship to food and log what you eat each day. We figured it was only fair we should do this since we put Brisket on a diet. I've lost 11lbs so far which feels good but I'm aiming for another 10 lost baybee!! Let's see if I can make it!

TV
- Fuck, That's Delicious! - it's a VICE show but it's currently on HULU. This is a food travel show that follows rapper Action Broson and his friends around the world as they eat amazing food. I'm obsessed. I've gotten high the last 3 nights and watched 10 episodes.
- Floor Is Lava - new Netflix game show that's basically American Ninja/Wipeout/Nickelodeon Guts with a pool of lava on the floor you can't touch! Enjoyed the first episode but there's a lot of wasted time with people shouting about HOW CRAZY EVERYTHING IS! or dudes needing to make a million jokes. Focus up PEOPLE! The best part is when someone falls in the 'lava' we never see them again....
Movies
1. Disclosure - new Neftlix movie about how trans people have been portrayed in Hollywood and the impact that's had on the community. Powerful, necessary viewing because if you didn't know...Trans Lives Matter!
2. Harriet - amazing performance by my broadway crush Cynthia Erivo!
3. Bruce Lee: Be Water - new 30 for 30 on ESPN that documents Bruce Lee's life through the lens of the racism and barriers he faced during his career.
4. Master Z - I absolutely LOVE the IP man movies and I didn't realize until last week there's a spinoff movie they made about a side character and his fallout from fighting IP man. If you dig martial arts movies, the IP man series, including this one, are an absolute must watch.
Books
1. Michael Jordan: The Life by Roland Lazenby - still riding the high of The Last Dance doc so I picked this up since it's supposed to be the most thorough and well written of his biographies. So far it's great!
2. New Mexico's Best Ghost Towns/Arizona Ghost Towns and Mining Camps by Philip Varney - I had a great conversation with Janet Varney about the southwest and creepy abandoned towns and she mentioned her dad is an author who wrote several books on ghost towns so I had to snatch 'em up!
Video Games:
1. Slay The Spire - friends Rush Howell and Pad Connelly have been talking about the sweet sweet satisfaction of playing this game for maybe a year and I finally caved when I saw it came out on iOs. I've only injected a few hours into it but it's taking over my waking thoughts. VERY fun game that'll I'll have to treat as gaming dessert so I don't just lose myself in it.
2. Breath Of The Wild - taking my time with this baby! Just got to the desert where you can shield surf with a sand seal. It makes me giggle every time.
3. Streets of Rage 4 - played this with Japes for his livestream ($10,000?!!!??!! what an amazing thing he did!) and it was a GD blast. It's a throwback to the 4 player arcade machines I used to haunt (TMNT, The Simpsons, X-Men) and it's incredibly satisfying and the soundtrack absolutely fucks.
Theater:
1. Eschaton - A friend told me about this online immersive theater experience so Jemma and I bought tickets for it the last 2 Saturdays to experience it! It's part Sleep No More, part ZOOM Call, part Escape Room (there's a mystery to be solved) and part Karaoke party. Truly a blast and something I'll be doing again soon. Hey, everyone!
Big recommendation this month is Disclosure on Netflix. Really eye-opening documentary about Hollywood's impact on the trans community. They interview trans actors, writers, & creators about trans representation in media and how that has influenced cultural perceptions. Truly a great watch. Other than that, I just watched Avatar: The Last Airbender for the first time. 3 seasons on Netflix and it's pretty great! At one point, Aang refers to some Fire Nation people as "hotman" and Mariah and I have been calling each other hotman for weeks! So that's fun. Also started reading Book 3 of the Stormlight Archives and it's good so far! Adal turned me on to the first two books in the series. As far as music, I've been listening to a lot more music than I normally do, but it's for a secret project and I can't really go into specifics quite yet. If you hung out during last weekend's 24 hour Twitch Charity stream, thank you very much! We raised over 10k Chicago Community Bond Fund and a couple other local orgs. I'm getting more and more into Twitch streaming and I'm in the process of building a PC to really up my game. We have a pretty fun little community going, so come hang out if you are free Monday-Friday 11am-2pm Central. Twitch.tv/SharkBarkman. Adal and I still have a game of Streets of Rage 4 to finish, so we'll have to give everyone the sequel soon!

If you haven't seen it yet: Attack the Block. Layered social commentary wrapped in a glorious 80s style monster invasion flick. Great action and humor, the young actors are terrific (especially John Boyega), creature design A+, and who thought bedding could break your heart? A blast with a brain.

I'd recommend the fantasy novel Gideon The Ninth. It's lesbian necromancer, what not to love. I love the author's writing that is neither obtuse nor dumbed-down. The second book of the series is coming out in August so it's a good time to read the first one now.

Hey y’all so if you liked Disclosure, I wanted to recommend the show Pose. It’s a good representation of how trans women are viewed and treated. It’s not a documentary or anything but still opens up your eyes on the subject. It’s based off the movie Paris is Burning which I also recommend. But that’s more about the ballroom scene in NY in the 80s. If you do watch, I would live to hear your views and opinions. I just think it’s fascinating.
fyi Catherine is a really fun puzzle game, but the original had some transphobia (and misogyny) and apparently the remake made it *worse*, so buckle up also Slay the Spire is fucking great, if you want more roguelites I highly recommend checking out FTL, and if you want a friendly introduction to traditional roguelikes I recommend Dungeons of Dredmor

I’m a huge fan of slay the spire and I’ve been sinking a lot of time into a game called Monster Train. It basically takes everything Slay the Spire did and turns it up a notch. Lots of progression and cards to mess around with!

If epic fantasy is your jam I'm always happy The Malazan Book of the Fallen which starts with Gardens of the Moon. All 10 books of the main story have already been published so no waiting on slow authors. A local stage-show I enjoy has gone virtual. Super Art Fight is two artists with pro-wrestling-style personas drawing on the same canvas at the same time. Every 5 minutes they each get a new topic and attacking your opponent's work is encouraged. There's live play-by-play and the audience picks the winner. Currently they're streaming every other week on Twitch then putting them up on YouTube. During the isolation their top prize is now the SAF Pixelweight Championship.
Disclosure is definitely on my watch list, but if you liked that and have Apple TV+, the ‘Visible: Out on Television’ series is a great look at LGBT+ representation from the very start of tv broadcasts, focusing on different groups of people through the decades. It’s not perfect, but it has some great interviews and highlights where a lot of stereotypes/basis comes from.
