SEASON THREE UPDATE: Painting the new minis
🕑 Added 2021-11-03 04:24:27 +0000 UTCThis is just a simple peasant I used as a test to get back into the swing of painting minis for Season Three. At this magnification level, he looks more like a Deadite than anything ("I'll swallow your soul!!!") - and all you can see are the mistakes. Still, not bad for a guy who hasn't touched a paintbrush in over a year!
More importantly, this has put me back on the path to painting up the necessary minis for the new season - which is imminent now. The music is all done, the set is constructed, and now the key minis are getting a paint job. Very soon now, my friends....

You should try Zenthial priming, it takes the guess work out of where you shades and highlights should be. Basically you prime all over in black, then grey from 45 degrees and finally white from directly above. Black will be in all the shadows and white will show you where you lightest highlights will be. Becomes almost like painting by numbers. Hope that make sense.

Great to see you painting them! Looks good too!

Looks awesome to me! I remember picking up the paint brush for the first time after a long break from painting... Let's just say your first attempt back put mine to shame, lol.
very nice paint job Trevor. it's just a shame we don't see the figures that closely in your solo vid's, but great for when running a group game

Looking truly amazing ! That’s a very good tabletop quality. No need to go more overboard (although my inner self would love to see more ink shading. You have never enough shading 😂)
Not bad dude, not bad at all, appreciate all the effort!

Nicely done! I got a bunch of unpainted minis myself, from all sorts of games that I am using for solo play, but I cant be motivated to get brushing! So I respect your dedication lol

Ah yeah id hate to see you go through any pains for it. Need to get you a miners helmet with a camera strapped to the top =P
Lovely cuticle you have there, Trevor! Hurry up damnit will you!? I’ve been wearing my “91 dice roll” shirt for months now. I won’t take it off until the next T-shirt comes out! 😂

"Groovy..." I see what you did there ;)
Trevor Devall
Maybe. It's a pain in the behind to set up cameras in my workshop. And knowing me, I'd spill paint on them ;)

Dunno yet. Probably!

Well, I start with who I definitely know will be the main character. For season 2, I knew it was Arn, so he was my first paint job. I also had a suspicion we'd meet his sister, so I bought a mini for her (and didn't paint her until the finale episode....erp). I also knew that since it was going to be viking-inspired, I'd need a bunch of huscarls and hirdsmen (from an old wargame set of mine). Otherwise, I just hoped for the best. If you remember in season 2, there was an encounter with a giant spider, and all I had was a Tyrannid. But who cares? That's why we have imaginations :)

Dude! That’s a cool paint job. Cleaner and nicer than anything I’ve managed in my own painting hobby. Question, how do you decide what figures will be vital for the season? Is there a system, or do you just grab your favorite unpainted ones? I have a huge lot of unpainted minis that I’m slowly working through for my own solo games so I’m curious. 😊

Sticking with the Monday release schedule?

I may be alone here but id enjoy watching you make some of the set/scenery/paint minis if youd be up for it.
As somebody who's never painted anything in his life (which probably means his opinion is worthless here), I say you've done a good job with this. While I do agree that if you make the eyes a bit more white, it would look a little like a deadite, I still think the paint job looks groovy.

It's going to look great on the table with the dice flying behind him. Rock on

And you say you hate painting... That's really good!! I love your commitment to having props!
