Hi Trevor, Any advice/pointers for an age of sail/pirates game? Season 3 makes it look so effortless! But I’m having a tricky time with the sandbox (ha!) style. Also difficult time hitting all the right notes or deciding what they are. My players naturally gravitate towards being “good” but want to be terrors on the high seas. Advice? Pointers? Resources? I’m a new GM so when you release a Sage’s library or Drinking with GM’s video feels like I’m getting the ancient knowledge. Much love and keep it up!

Tim Vaughan

Maybe one of the 5PFH characters (if any survive!) could graduate to a Starforged campaign? :)

Kevin Campion

Nice! Well I'm in the lucky position of having plenty of MM&D content ahead of me. I'll tell those that I know of a nerdy persuasion about solo RPGs generally and your channel in particular.

Trevor Devall

Welcome Kevin! Shawn just sent me the hard copy of Starforged. We’ll see what the future brings!

Kevin Campion

No necessarily on topic, but have you thought about running a Starforged game? Relatively new viewer (on episode 14 of season 2). I'd love to see your take on "the Forge". I've bought so many RPG books on the back of enjoying your content. Hoping to get my hands on a physical copy of Starforged through modiphius when they drop. Never knew about solo RPGs until I found your channel.

I agree with the handwavey part. What really made the game interesting for me and my group though was the way Blades in the Dark handles planning. Way to many games on our table are bugged down by copius amounts of planning. Those plans normally fail quite fast and hours of prep time blow up into nothing. To avoid that we implemented some aspects of their model. However, many of other DMs and players seem to really enjoy the system therfore I am cuirous. Generally handwavey rules seem to be a trend in modern games. There are to many "narrative" systems with only little structure. Systems like Fate or PbtA make it hard to die. I think PCs mortality is very important for a good RPG. That's why I enjoy Harnmaster so much.

Trevor Devall

I’m not a huge fan of the BitD games. I appreciate what they’re trying to do, but they’re a bit too “handwavey” for my tastes. That said, I’ll probably do a Sage’s Library on Band of Blades, which is one of those games that I had a good experience with.

I can only comment here anyway. ^^ Question: I cam into posession of the Blades in the Dark Solo rules and a few gimmicks like Scum & Villany. Have you ever considered using this system for one of your games? Or have you haver played it at all? I can't get my friends to try so maybe I'll see you running it :D

Steven Benham

Sales rolled a weak hit then, should've burned momentum 😜

Trevor Devall

Great!!

Shawn Tomkin

Haha. I've described stuff wrong and I made the damn game. Definitely not something to lose sleep over. Great video. Thanks for the Ironsworn shoutout! I think I saw sales perk up a bit.

Trevor Devall

Yeah, yeah… 18 episodes I filmed!! Can’t BELIEVE I got that wrong… I’ve been self-flagellating with my metaphorical cat o’nine tails for days over that one ;)

Shawn Tomkin

Now you've got me wondering how the Ironsworn math would work out for roll-under instead of roll-over.

8k views - Shows the power of the DnD algorithm! Which throws up a possible channel growing idea? Henry Cavill just announced his Warhammer 40k collab with Amazon. Handled right (a big proviso) this could become a very, very big thing. Huge existing fan base, lots of interested new people = a lot of Youtube searches! Some MM&D content on the Warhammer World might be interesting to see how much traction that can generate in the 2023 algorithm? Hope everyone has a great Christmas - I'm working over most of it but great news - I'll be in a big comfortable office on my own with a HUGE TV screen which will be showing a binge watch of the past three seasons! I just hope the local restaurant delivery guys are up the job in supplying me.

Trevor Devall

Hah! :D

Michael Nardi

You're going viral! But don't worry, someone who's played RPGs as long as you knows how to deal with trolls.

Steven Benham

Ye, you responded to my question about Zweihander rpg, didnt expect an answer, but always nice when you have time, so cheers 😁🎅😁

Aaron Quebman

Keep on trucking Trevor I never expect a response and when I get one im honestly pleasantly surprised. Love the content, do whatever keeps you happy and healthy while growing the channel.

Trevor Devall

Thanks Jason!

Jason Martin

Hey Trevor... I, for one, never really expect a response every time that I comment on something. Regardless of who's video it is that I'm commenting on. I have zero issues with you putting your time where you need to! As long as the stories are awesome, I'm not afraid of that yet!, just keep doing what you are doing :) I am here for the ride, enjoying every minute of it too!
