On the 'Nature vs Nurture'-thing, I would actually propose that their difference in nature only really mattered insofar that as a consequence they also received different nurture. Azula was able to meet her fathers toxic standards so she was treated like an asset, Zuko wasn't and was treated like a liability. Otherwise, I think they're not so different. Honestly, Zuko was probably "saved" by the fact that he was neither smart enough to pick up on what Ozai wanted, nor talented enough to deliver on it.

So for those of you who are Avatar fans the gentleman who voices zuko Dante Bosco and the gentleman who voiced Uncle iro up until the third season mako and I didn't know this apparently they've been acting together since Dante was a little kid and Marco has always played a father or uncle rule in the movies and they became good friends so this means that chemistry between zuko and iro wasn't just characters it was built on a real relationship and when mako sadly passed away in the third season Dante said he was hard for him to continue the series. So every time we saw zuko be mean to iro you can just imagine how hard that was for Dante. This lends a whole new perspective to the show

The Legend of Kora is good, but no where close to ATLA, imo, but nothing comes close to ALTA. Once you get past how much of an arrogant b!tch Kora is at the beginning of the show, it's enjoyable. Now, NEVER watch the live action movie of ATLA. Just don't. They butchered it the second they pronounced Aang's name like Awng. As for the live action show on Netflix, I really enjoyed. It's just a live action adaptation of the cartoon you just watched so there's no rush to watch it. The weird thing about it, and why some loud mouths hate on it, is how many plot points they changed or consolidated to prevent it's run time being too long. I didn't mind it because we got to see new things like the fire nation invasion of the air temples. The special effects of the bending types are also incredibly cool looking. I can't wait til they release seasons 2 and 3 and we get to see Toph and Azula in live action.

Just a few things: - Katara can only bloodbend at night when the moon is full, otherwise, she's not powerful enough to do it. And also, she hates it. - I see other people saying that the live action show is good, and I'm glad people enjoyed it, but I really didn't. In my opinion the characters are A LOT worse, the acting is not great, the pacing isn't as good and pretty much all the changes they made, makes it worse than the original. But as Zokka says at the end of the ember island players: "the effects were decent".

The live action movie is trash the show is good for what it is if you watch it don't go into it thinking it's going to be a 1:1 of the animated version, Netflix made their version of the show and I personally liked it. Sadly we don’t have an extra episode of Zuko finding his mom but there are comics showing what happened if you want to read them. But yeah Atla is one of the most well written shows out there to the point it’s hard to find other shows that can stand up to it. Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a newer contender but set in a much more mature setting, and is responsible for one of the biggest revivals I’ve seen in a video game. The amount of people that went back to cyberpunk 2077 after edgerunners was wild. Also the animation team did their fkin homework, damn near every shot in that show can be visited and recreated in the game it’s wild how much time and effort was spend to make sure it was 100% accurate. Code Geass another top tier show close to avatar but it has some pacing issues and needless fan service in the second season but overall amazing show. Hell the transformation the main character of that show goes through is a kin to something like Walter white

And now, even off screen, you should go read the few comics, the story takes place right after the show, Zuko's mother is there, Azula's history going forward, Toph creating the metalbending school, Zuko's "family" thing issues. That would take an hour or two but I genuily think it's worth it to fullfill it all together.

My main complaint with this reaction is the Blood Bending comments. You missed the detail that water benders need the power from the full moon in order to blood bend. Katara couldn’t blood bend the fire lord even if she wanted too. There wasn’t a full moon.

So glad I could go on this journey into this amazing show with you Alex! I DEFINITELY think you should check out Legend of Korra. It's not as great but it's still pretty damn good. Everyone agrees that the movie is pure dogshit. There honestly is nothing to be gained from watching it. It WILL ruin your day it's that bad. As for the live action show, to be perfectly frank, I think the people saying it's garbage too are mostly dishonest actors that probably never even watched it. The consider the OG series sacred and any kind of attempt to change ANYTHING is seen as a war crime to them. I'm not saying it's perfect. It's not. But it's an honest to God 7-8 out of 10 and is worth checking out especially since book 2 of it is coming out this year or early next year. There is ONE caveat though. Although it only covers book 1 up until the invasion of the North Pole it brings in lore and canon from the ENTIRE Avatar universe. It brings in stuff from books 2 and 3, Legend of Korra, even the comics so while you don't HAVE to have taken in all of those other shows and books to watch the live action I do think you'll get MORE out of it if you have all that lore. Just a thought. And speaking of which, yes there are numerous comics that take place after the show. The promise, The Search, even an entire Kyoshi series that are ALL really well done and worth reading as well.

I have to wonder if Alex realized what Ang was doing when he entered the avatar state all four of those elements swirling around him were being compressed into the small thin form that they were when he first pulls up those rocks those are giant boulders, and then they are crushed down into the size of small stones. All the water was compressed into a tiny Swirling jet. He held that much power around his body.

As someone else mentioned Blood bending is only during a full moon, but I’ve noticed every reactor mentions she should have blood bended. I think it may be because most people got to watch all of the reruns of the blood bending episode so were a bit more aware of the rules of blood bending

I would love if you watched the live action movie just to see how terrible they got it but I understand if you don’t want to go through that pain lol. I find it quite entertaining just seeing how much stuff they mess up. THE LIVE ACTION SHOW is worth it, at least just to see the first episode because I honestly was blown away by the live action show’s first episode! But if you are planning on watching the movie I recommend watching the movie before the live action show! And if you watch the live action show, I think most people are upset it’s not a one to one adaption, or they changed some things, but with how much content they had to put into like 8 episodes or something, I think they did a good job. I would definitely say watching Legend of Korra is a thing you should do. (There is potential of tainting your opinion, so read forward at your own risk.) I had a hard time with ALoK when it first came out. Without going into too much detail, I felt like it just wasn't Avatar as I knew it to be. Then, years later, after the show had been finished for a few years, I came to realize that it was because I expected it to be the exact same as ATLA. Once I realized that, and gave it a chance, I came to REALLY like the show. Not as much as ATLA, for sure, but it was still pretty great and it did a pretty good job of showing more of the world of Avatar that you don't get in ATLA.

And honestly, the live action series was actually pretty good, it’s mostly being hated by people who want an exact remake of the animated show. Now the live action movie, whole other story. For me, that's why I like the Netflix show - because it's not a beat for beat repeat of the animated series. If I want that, I'd just watch the animated series again (and I have). The whole concept of Korra, the next Avatar, is that she's the polar opposite of Aang. But we're also supposed to like her. That is the first and most fundamental terrible decision that shows how the creators Mike and Bryan totally lost the plot. I'll never understand why they took a beloved, perfect show and said, "let's make the opposite of that."

I would watch Korra, but it pales in comparison. The characters aren't as good, the setting is not as good, returning characters aren't handled very well, and it even retroactively ruins cool things from this show. However the action and animation are pretty good, and the stories of seasons 1 and 3 are pretty good. Season 2 is dogwater on a level that still deeply bothers me.

Please watch the Legend of Korra, You wont be dissapointed. But go into it without comparison to ATLA. Nothing will compare to ATLA but the LoK is amazing all on its own. It it truly knows how to pay homage to the original series without ruining what ATLA was.

to offer a different take, Korra is a great show. It is different, and each season is its own story - so the pace and pay off is different. But it builds on the world in many very creative and cool ways and introduces a new group of excellent characters. It's not better than Avatar, to be sure, but it is still really good and well worth watching. And the Netflix live action show is a somewhat different take. The cast is really good and if you go in understanding it's an adaptation and not a clone of the animated series, there is a lot to love there too.

real talk, while Korra can't live up to the original series, it does a lot of things really well and is totally worth watching. Korra ups the ante for action, animation and maturity I feel. It has some great villains. It has JK Simmons and an elderly versions of the Aang gang. Check out at least season 1 of Korra and see if you're on board. Skip anything live action.

That thing that happened to Aang's back to trigger the Avatar State makes me think of how Chi energy flows in Taoist Teachings. Chi flows from the chest, down the front of the arms to the fingers. It then travels up the back of the arms to the head. I think the reason Aang was having a hard time tapping into the Avatar state in Season 3 was bc his chi pathways were blocked due to that back injury.

If you're watching The Legend of Korra, go into it with an open mind. It will never be the same as Avatar: The Last Airbender, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great in its own way. The key is to see it as its own show rather than constantly comparing it to ATLA. For me, ATLA will always be on another level, but LoK has so much to offer if you don’t watch it through the lens of “this isn’t as good as the first series.” When I first watched it, I ruined the experience for myself by constantly mourning the differences. But on my second watch, I appreciated it so much more. The Legend of Korra is a fantastic show—you just have to let it stand on its own.

The ATLA movie is indeed garbage filth. I don't think the live action show is garbage filth but it definitely just felt like a worse version of the original (except for Zuko, I actually think Zuko in Book 1 of the live action is better than he was in Book 1 of the original). The Legend of Korra is about the Avatar after Aang, and it's fairly divisive among ATLA fans. We do know for certain that the new show, Avatar: Seven Havens, takes place AFTER Korra, so if that ever does end up being something worth watching, Korra will obviously be essential viewing for that.

You know what I love that a lot of people don't mention at all? Aang didn't defeat Oazi as Avatar Aang. He defeated him as Aang The Avatar because in the end he defeated him "HIS" way not the way his past lives wanted him to. And one thing I do feel sorry for Azula more. Because she had her father's "love" in season 3 we see that she truly did care for Zuko. But at the end of it there was legit no one there for her at all. And she legit had a mental breakdown. I think in the end she finally realized that Oazi was just using her he had no real feelings for her.
