I get what you’re saying about the movie but like a lot of people in the comments have said I loved this movie when I was younger. Me and my brother would watch it all the time. I’ve always loved Greek mythology so this movie made me so happy! The second movie I think had more action scenes and more mythological creatures which I thought was so cool. But I’m sure you wouldn’t like the acting in that one either. I overall loved them both and still rewatch them sometimes, and I’ve always been sad they never finished the series :(

So these movies aren’t great and they don’t adapt the source material well at all. However, I was a young boy and seeing Alexandra Daddario in this was the earliest moment I can remember where not every girl was gross anymore and for that reason it holds a special place in my heart 😂 also I won’t tolerate the Grover hate! That’s just the way the character was written for these movies. It’s not great but it definitely fits the late 2000s/early 2010s “cool kid” aesthetic they were going for. If anything I’d say he’s one of the few actors in this series actually putting effort into their lines, granted most of them weren’t necessarily seasoned actors.

I'm saying! I liked the 1st movie, and the 2nd wasn't too bad either. I love being able to watch movies with Alex, but I'm glad I've already seen this one; otherwise, I would miss most of what the actors were trying to portray...and saying, for that matter. The commentary about Brandon T. Jackson....woah. Talking like that? It makes it seem like my boy, Alex, could ruin a wet dream if something happens he doesn't like. In the words of 90's group Guy, "Let's Chill, let's settle down", but the next line would reference just watching the rest of the movie. That's it, no more Disney movies for you, sir! To answer his question just before the hour and 5 minutes mark, I'm leaning more towards 'a-hole'. I mean, let's be real---this movie is on tne Disney Channel, not Cinemax: After Dark.

I agree with the general “movie was a miss” comments, especially when comparing them to the books. However, I think because there’s so much negative talk about the movie online from book fans, you let it bias your opinion of the movie even before you watched it and that led to you specifically looking for faults to find without really just taking in the film as it was. I watched the 1st movie before I read the books. I liked the movie so much that I felt like I had to read the books (since at the time there was no announcement for a second movie). I just wish you hadn’t let online comments bias your reaction from the get go. You started the reaction saying that it was a “terrible” movie without having even watched a second of it, when honestly, it’s not that bad of a movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an absolutely horrible film adaptation of the book series, but it’s not a horrible movie. You even said yourself that it was somewhat enjoyable and then immediately talked about how all the main characters were bad actors or that the script was bad.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I think these movies are pretty good for what they are, and I also think the show is better. Alex obviously disliked the movie, for the most part. When I said everything can't be a winner, I meant for him, not for everyone. I also know people who can't stand Harry Potter or Narnia....just a matter of opinion. How did they manage it? By completely ignoring the actual source material to the point where the creator of the books still to this day HATES these movies and distances himself from them. And honestly, I used to love these movies years ago, but especially after re-reading the books and watching the show, it's actually shocking how they literally changed 75% of everything to the point where a lot of it doesn't make any kind of sense. Like there's so much that didn't even need to be changed to begin with. And the next movie is worse on that front. Like the movies can be fun, I agree, but as a Percy Jackson adaptation? No way. And the bonus that I just love watching Alexandra Daddario, but... Yeah, lol I really hope that you at one point have the chance to watch the show, it's really good and made by the creator himself. Keep in mind Alex, these are based on children's books. Ages 9-12. My son read the books in 4th grade and enjoyed the movies as well. Though the movie isn't great, and it strays from the book material, I really enjoy Greek mythology. It's always been interesting to me. With that said, everything can't be a winner I guess. The show is fantastic though....I definitely recommend it.

Comparing this movie to the books it is supposedly based on. They are so utterly completely different besides the fact the both of our Greek gods and there's a lightning bolt that's stolen. But that's about it. The characters are very much different and better in the books. Grover is completely different. How he behaves. This movie just sucks. I usually love these reactions because they are so funny. But I just could not get past how much hate and viciousness he was throwing to Grover. It's just a character and there's really no need to hate on him that much with EVERY single line or comment or action he makes. I get a joke every now and then but damn all I did was get annoyed that Alex wouldn't stfu about how much he has to let us know he hates Grover with every fiber in his body. This movie is a bit older now so the early 2000’s acting from Grover was kinda spot on and considered funny/cool back then. He’s a satyr and satyrs are naturally horn dogs so yeah he’d have 11 wives if he could. That’s why he got all giddy for the daughters of Aphrodite earlier on lol. His character is also supposed to be upbeat, cheerful, eccentric, and loyal with his friends but he is also written to be timid in a sense. If the author, Rick Riordan, was involved with the making of these movies he would’ve done Grover a lot better. I read the whole series of books 3 times through and they were absolutely and still are to this day my favorite books.

Not my Vegas story but a buddy and his wife went a few years back. For some context this is a big dude who is shy as hell and pretty soft spoken, while his wife very vocal and extroverted the one who drags him out to places. Well when he got back he was telling me and a few co workers about the trip and mentioned a strip club. This is not the type of guy to go to one so we obviously asked how the hell that happened. Turns out his wife was the one who suggested it because she’d never been, they went and sat him right in front of the fking stage. Dude wouldn’t tell us anymore than that but he was obviously embarrassed about something, so we asked his wife (we all worked in the same hospital at the time). Turns out a girl kept dancing around him making him uncomfortable as hell, and he didn’t want to be rude so he was going to tip her. But he had no money on him, so he had to turn to his wife and ask her for money. She said and I quote, “ this man looked at me like a kid on Sunday morning asking for money to put in the offering plate”. We still haven’t let him live that shit down,gotta love ole Altar Boy

1:01:00 their 12 in the books and around 13-14 in the new tv series. These films didn’t even involve the original author cutting him out completely, so the films are not accurate to the books at all and the author has publicly come out criticizing the film. They did involve him in the tv show so it is much more accurate to the book. Really don’t know why they even tried to adapt the books in movie format it just doesn’t work. The Percy books are all quite long hell the first book which this film “covers” is 400+ pages and their are 5 of them all 300+ in just the main series. With 18 books in total across 5 different series. Read the first 2 series, Percy and Jason, back in the day shit is extensive Not as good as Harry Potter but very interesting world

Percy's reaction to his mother's disappearance is relatable to me. When I learned my grandmother had died I didn't cry or was sad right after. I first need to process what I have heard, think about what it really means, and feel sad. After that, I thought about all the happy memories, and only when I saw my grandmother's lifeless body the tears came. So I can understand why you found his acting not appropriate. But for some, it is the way they will react.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually like this movie. It's fun and entertaining. However, I haven't read the books or seen the second one or the TV show. I just know the movie is a LOT different from the book (for instance: Percy, Annabeth and Grover were 12 in the book but 16 in the movie), which is surprising considering Chris Columbus directed it and the first two HP movies are undeniably the closest to the books (I even forgot he directed this one lol). The writing isn't that great either. Rick Riordan, the author of the books, hated the script and the changes, though he did not blame the actors and was grateful for how many people discovered the books because of the movies. Anyway, I feel like you were too hard on the Grover character. Btw, they were literally drugged and under a spell in the casino so of course they didn't think any of it was abnormal! I also think you missed when they said they had been in there for 5 days, even though it only felt like a few hours. It fucked up with their sense of time. And you're right, it has an absolute stacked cast but some of them were severely underused (like Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan). This isn't Logan Lerman's (Percy) best role by any means but he's an incredibly underrated actor. I highly suggest The Perks of Being a Wallflower and even Noah 👍🏻

I really enjoyed the books and the movies as a separate experience. The biggest problem I feel is this dialogue was written for characters that were twelve years old, so when they aged up the characters they should have upgraded the dialogue. Grover was written as the token comedic relief but ended up becoming cheesy or annoying. It wasn’t done well. The second movie is worse because it seemed like they knew they weren’t getting another movie and tried to shove in as many storylines from other books as they could.

I definitely see the cheesiness watching it all these years later. This series was developed about 20 years ago as a set of novels, was very popular and taught in middle schools. This movie had to be developed in a way that was appropriate and marketable to show in classrooms. I've read the books and I think the actors do a good job at capturing the spirit of the characters. They also aged the characters in the movies as they start out younger in the books.

Here’s my take on the movies as a book fan First movie is not bad at all (horrible adaptation but on its own it’s a fun time) Second movie is pretty bad it’s still fun but the fun doesn’t take away from the negatives the movie has the same way the first does

I remember when I first watched this movie. I really enjoyed it and didn't understand the hate. Then I read the books....safe to say, I now understand the hate. I know the books are usually better but they were SIGNIFICANTLY better with this one. I do think it's still enjoyable as a standalone film. Not the best, but not the worst.
