They definitely break down a lot of the questions you guys have later in the series. Hang in there. You're in for arguably one of the best anime battles ever in the next few episodes. They do explain the connection with Tanjuro and his form of fire breathing though. The new forms come from their training...

Since y’all were wondering…level 10 is not the highest, that’s only as high as Tanjiro can go in water breathing and he’s been able to do that since he became a demon slayer early in season 1
