OMG!

Justin Jordan

Wow such a great performance! And had no idea we are the same age. Crazy! Get well soon Diana!

G4M1L

Not sure what I expected when I started that video, but certainly not such a powerful opera quality voice. Hope you'll have enough power some time in the not too distant future for something like this. Not that I expect you to do such a performance, just wish you the power to do so, if you choose.

Carol McGarvey

Beautiful singing and playing โค๏ธ did you win ๐Ÿ†?

Sang

You are showcasing the virtuosity of bel canto training here; I know you have done videos on resonant frequencies of glass before, but I think it would be fascinating to do a deeper dive on the amplitude allowed by true professional classical/bel canto training. (Once you are well enough, of course!)

EDM Ninja

Amazing! Good job!!!

deets

That's impressive. And I use this opportunity to wish her to achieve full recovery as soon as possible.

Andrew Henderson

Really impressive. 2006 eh? Feels like yesterday to me. That was when I was 24, was the year that my now sister in law had my niece, the first daughter of the next generation of our family and where 2 mind blowing films called "Click" and "Idiocracy" came out. Back then, Idiocracy was considered comedy - now it's a prophecy (see that they predicted that crocs were the shoes of the future) :-O

At0micAllison

๐Ÿ™ Hoping youโ€™ll be well again soon. All the best to you, Dianna.

Paul Eykamp, PhD

No wonder she won!!!

RayRay 711

It's so sad that it had to take a serious illness to see hidden talents such as this of Diana to surface, but I am grateful for you posting this. Please get well soon, Diana!

John

Dianna, you are an exceptional person! If you ever need a lung transplant, let me know- you can have one of mine. Ooops- sorry, I had to duck a neutrino that almost hit me.

Jean-Philippe Suter

Is there anyting at which Dianna doesn't excel?! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm blown away by Dianna all over again.

Just Old Bob

Hello Physics Girl Team, This is just a suggestion, but have you ever considered consolidating your channel with (for instance) Geo Girls Team? Both ladys are professional and really make me and others happy when you get so excited when you teach us. You could outrank PBS. Just a thought. Bob

Richard Waskiewicz

Adding one more "thinking of you guys" to the list. That was a beautifully sung complicated piece. :) ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ

Justin Millman

I saw this and thought you might be interested - it's about elevated levels of histamine being the cause of long covid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr2bb0b4X14

Thanks for the singing whoa best health wishes etc

Ondrej Grulich

Any news how Dianna is doing? (I cross my fingers for her to feel better and better and for her closest family and friends to keep effort and stay optimistic and full of energy).

Gary Grenier

We are always thinking about Dianna!! I hope she feels better soon!!!!

Gary Grenier

This is my favorite video about how the mitochondria (ATP Synthase specifically) works as well!!!! https://youtu.be/lUrEewYLIQg?si=X38XfEVzkqopmGzM

Gary Grenier

Hi this is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!!!! Check out this new research on ME/CFS! The mitochondria (ATP Synthase specifically) are my favorite biological structures (they literally work like a 7800 RPM water wheel adding potential energy to make ATP!). In this case a high level of a certain protein was seen to literally jamb up the tiny machines drastically reducing energy production and hence the body has less free ATP to use!!!! https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2023/09/17/fatigue-cfs-longcovid-mitochondria/

Chad Leeper

FANTASTIC! Look forward to you chiming samples in on a future episode where you explore all the physics of music ala Gรถdel, Escher, Bach!

brian anzaldua

Is there anything she is not good at? We continue to pray for her recovery from this last crash. Thanks for the updates.

Dean P Neuburger

Lovely and very sweet.

Dean P Neuburger

Listening and watching your video, now, finally, and such a sweet delight your singing of one of my favorite operas. Scene 5 opening with Rosina. I love this opera and you are singing this at 17 so beautifully! My favorite recording of this is with Agnes Baltsa. So beautiful for me to hear you sing a very favorite piece in my life! Thank you!

Brian Wilfley

This is just stunning. So beautiful. I walked away from my computer sobbing. Dear God, let Dianna be well.

Michael Flood

When I first heard the fast paced piano at the beginning, and Dianna waiting patiently, I half expected her to launch into The Elements... What a surprise! Excellent!

Michael E Bull

Beautiful. We love you, Dianna. Please heal fast. Looking forward to seeing you up and about, soon. Praying for you. Worried about you. God bless.

astrobassist

I knew she rocks but i didn't know she was classically trained to rock our socks off. Amazing!!!

Andi Newton

Wow! Simply outstanding!

Timothy Williams

Wow, wowzers, WOW!!! Standing ovation!

Kirk Banfield

Beautiful โค๏ธ - bravissimo !!

Wordragon

Goosebumps!

Robert Fiske

Just wonderful! Brilliant! Now we know why Dianna was drawn to physics. This woman is pure ball lightning! It's all about understanding oneself!

Alberto Segovia

What an exceptional human being.

Morgan Henry

Blown away - so talented! Being that good at singing OR playing piano OR educating the world about physics - but all three. Wow. Thanks for sharing.

Donglai Gong

So beautiful!

Quasijoe

Wow, just wow,

Christopher Barber

Wow! I had no idea that Dianna was an operatic soprano!

MartinR

I am in awe of this oh so talented woman.

Mithinco

Wow! What a voice! I had no idea!

kurthl33t

Good Lord. Imagine being that good at ANYTHING at age 17.

Julie Sullivan

So talented! Thereโ€™s nothing she canโ€™t do when she is healthy! Sending you healing vibes Diana ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

Nick Kaipainen

You have a beautiful voice Stay strong. I pray for your recovery. <3

Bob Brown

Brilliant. You are so talented. Wow. I am in awe. We need you back. Keep getting better.

Filipe Pereira

What a voice! Awesome

Hugh Arthur

Awesome. That is a very tough aria for a 17 year old. My daughter is a professional opera singer and she only recently started performing this aria.

Jeff Greenlee

I have always held the notion that music and physics, They are both reflections of some hidden force that ties them together Watching this was a delightful reinforcement of that idea!

Ed Bartkiewicz

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Abigail

sheโ€™s so amazing!! music and scienceโ€ฆ slay ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงชโœจ

Bill Storm

Physics never sounded so magical. The moment art and science got married.

Joey

Was this the moment she decided to stop aging?

Omar Luciano Lopez

Whoa! Like... WHOA!

dino@deanlm.com

Hit those highs, Dianna! We'll get someone like Olivia Rodrigo for the bass notes ...

Robert Evans

What a lovely song bird. I agree with many of the comments here. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that. That was amazing. Dianna, thank you for sharing that wonderful gem. I'm sorry you're still in the dark but I know that performance has brought a lot of light to those of us who viewed it. It did to me. Thank you :)

Jer

The crash setback is existentially frustrating, and I'm glad to hear she is feeling stronger. I'm blown away by the performance. I am deeply impressed by Dianna's musical talent! She has a wonderful voice and plays piano brilliantly!

Roger Adams

Amazing! Intelligence, knowledge, musical talent, beauty -- Dianna, you've got it all! You're going to kick this thing's butt.

Baz Poulton

That was incredible! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't anywhere near as fantastic as that! No wonder Diana won, that was awesome! Love, hugs and best wishes for you to get better as soon as you can. (But no pressure, I just want you to be well again)

Steve Ollo

Very talented. Get well.

Tom McElin

Bravo!

RebeccaOtis

Thanks for sharing this!! You are still the same wonderful, passionate person even when youโ€™re very crashed and you donโ€™t feel like the same person. You are! The mental challenges of ME/CFS are terrible, but your inner wisdom and joy are still there inside. All we can do is to keep returning to the present moment and take our healing day by day. Lots of love, from a fellow patient

Dorota Holubek

Beautiful!!!

Vaughan W Mitchell

Absolute Perfection โค๏ธ

cameron

every moment of that is beautiful.

Nick

Oh, another thing Dianna is awesome at? Surprise!! โค๏ธ

Pierre-Lรฉo Bourbonnais

Very nice! I am an engineer and pianist, so I can relate to her brain so well! Physics/sience and music are the best duo there is!

Dan Wigodsky

Setbacks suck. Keep fighting. You have a whole community pulling for you. When it gets rough, just hold on to those who love you.

Ken Hanson

https://reddit.com/r/science/s/ZjbB57dzpY

Doug Housley

Brava! That was very impressive! I cannot wait for you to get better so you can explain the physics behind why music sounds so beautiful to the human ear. Also, why some people, such as you, can sing like an angel, while others, like me, can't carry a tune in a bucket. :D Love you and wishing you the speediest of recoveries.

Nigel D Perels

Such talent! Thank you for sharing this - I am still looking forward to the day when we get our Physics Girl back in the saddle.

Jeff Jansen

Wow. I had no idea. And she hasn't aged a day, amirite?

Bart Barenbrug

So versatile. Thank you. Even though I don't know how to put them into words very well, sending happy thoughts and best wishes your way to help you recover.

Mark Combs

Wow! Just, wow!

Dr Andy Hill

Beautiful,

Kieran Le Cam

Dude! That's actually a pretty good voice! In my experience singing can be good for mental health, I would give it a shot. Humming tunes, any tune you like. The vibrations are soothing and help bring your emotions to the surface to process them better. Maybe even write a song, but put some hope in it! I've been having a rough time lately too, feeling like life is cornering me, but there's always something to be grateful for. I remind myself, even though I have no true good friends right now, that I have my health. Perhaps you don't have your health, but you have your friends, a husband that loves you, and all the people, real people, even if they don't feel like that when the only thing you see are comments, that care for you. It's a beautiful gift. Make your Mettle from what you have around you. In your case it's Nuts, music and Love. Find joy in what you can. A breath, a sunny moment. Turn off the expectations of coming back to the way it was. Life isn't going to be like it was, but it's like the way it is, and there's something you can do about that. But only if you accept the road to recovery. Be strong, and I think I'm saying this for you as much I am saying it for myself right now, but FIGHT! Hope you don't mind my long ass philosophical rambling! Much Love โค๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘Š

Dale Allen Platt

I cannot begin to imagine how hard all this is for you and your family and close friends... Hang in there, it will get better!

Michael

Is there anything this young lady canโ€™t do? We miss you terribly. Please get well soon.

Erica Peterson

Wow! I didn't expect to be swept away like that. What a wealth of talent. Thanks for sharing that. I hope you get better soon, you deserve to be up and running in the sunlight and making physics videos and laughing without restraint the way you do. Love you, Erica

CUCKOO

โค๏ธ thanks for sharing this beautiful moment. I love it.

Ingrid Dianita

That was fun to watch, u have so many talents! Praying for you everyday, Dianna!

Michelle Anne Lynne

omg, that was unexpected!! ^_^ dianna, we need more opera on your next physics videos!!! โค๏ธ we miss you sweetie! โค๏ธ

Mike Pezaro

True storyโ€ฆ I had two passions in my formative years - music and physics. I donโ€™t think I would even have had the guts to say โ€œHiโ€ to Diana!!! Here hoping the recovery continues without further setbacks and we get to hear from the Lady herself before the year ends.

Enderbeats

Oh wow! I was definitely not expecting this. Thanks for sharing this side from Diana with us! Stay strong guys, we love you and think of you always โค๏ธ

zzzluvsk

Wow that was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. What was the name of the second piece? I am so impressed and Diana is so brave, both then and now for pursuing what she loves. Im 24 and I can appreciate how difficult that is. Anyways, my heart goes out towards wishing Diana a speedy recovery! โค๏ธ

Craig Good

OK, I knew that she'd be adorable, but that singing blew me away. When she's back at work we need a video on the physics of singing.

Jonas Wahlfrid

Well done! Get well soon!

Yuhuai Liu

I hope Dianna a speedy recovery. I am not a medical professional but there seems to be a lot of literature regarding long COVID lately that points to micro blood clots for the cause of many long COVID symptoms, including ME/CFS and POTS. Have the physicians tried prescribing a cocktail of anti-coagulants? Here is one of the articles that talks about efficacy of anti-coagulants: https://www.healthrising.org/blog/2023/04/04/coagulation-long-covid-chronic-fatigue-fibromyalgia/ Again, I am not a medical professional. Maybe the physicians and the family have looked at various possibilities including anti-coagulant treatments. If not, maybe it is worth a shot to discuss with her physicians. I just don't want to leave stones unturned.

Christian Krabbe

That is amazing. Get well soon, Dianna.

Gloria Baca

You never cease to amaze me! Sending good thoughts your way! โค๏ธ

pho3nixmatt

This is amazing.

Eduardo Andreotti

Wow! So much talent!

John Casella

Wow. What a fantastic performance! Add this to her list of many talents. What a wonderful soul. We all continue to send our love and encouragement so that she can finally get back to some semblance of normalcy. Stay strong! Sending love and prayers.

Michael Kobb

I'm sure these crash/setbacks are so discouraging, but I think those of us following from the outside can tell that progress is being made nonetheless. Dianna, we're all pulling for you, we know you're going to get through this with time, and we look forward to the day that you are up and around again very much. ๐Ÿ’•

Peter Guhl

Wonderful performance! I started to regularly sing in choirs at about 16/17. I just got 47 and the plan is to continue for at least another 50 years. Best wishes for your recovery! We are here. And we will not forget the work you did for Science communication! Promotion algorithm may forget, real fans don't.

Andrew Halladay

Italian Arias! How fun to see this side of Dianna! She definitely has natural talent.

Hal McKinney

Beautiful ๐Ÿ’— The world needs more of this & more of you... get better in your own time... you're worth the wait.

Erik Scrafford

yeah, me too! wow! i guess it shouldn't come a a surprise, but damn! Dianna has all the talents.

Sarah McKelvey

So beautiful. Thinking of you all and I hope the mental pain reduces soon to give you a break ๐Ÿ’—

jason schwartzman

Wow

David Hennigan

Of all the subscriptions Iโ€™ve canceled and costs Iโ€™ve cut, your recovery is by far the thing Iโ€™m most proud to continue supporting. I know Iโ€™m not alone in feeling this way! Youโ€™ve given so much to the world; itโ€™s our turn to give back. We owe you a great debt for the generations of curious humans youโ€™ve inspired. Brava to your performance - canโ€™t wait to hear the encore!

Marc Scudamore

Wow!

Stewart Barber

What a wonderful talent. Thank you.

Gaby Dorough

Did anyone else kept saying "holy shit!"??? We all did? I knew it.

Gregory Gentile

Dianna, it is nice to know you were great even before you were our Physics Girl. The world is so much a better place when you are in it.

Socratica Studios

You've always been someone who shared their wonder about the beauty of the worldโ€”not only about scientific advances but also these more intangible, harder to pin down things like how do humans interact with their world and capture what we have discovered. How do we begin to celebrate what a wondrous thing it is to be alive in this world. Keeping you in our thoughts. ~ Kim and Michael

John DeJarnatt

This is amazing! The end of the first song brought me shivers. Seeing someone this young with this kind of talent is always a special treat. Thank you for sharing this video! As always, I continue to hope for Dianna's health improvement. Perhaps one day, she will sing to us here.

chris reilly

Her talent is amazing

Alex Taylor

Here smile was great all the way back then.

Daniel A Decker

Wow, just wow๐ŸŽ‰ pure talent in so many ways. I cannot wait for you to get better the world needs you so much.

Katey

My goodness, she looks the same! Very nice, Dianna. Pray for you every day. God bless.

Bruce Grembowski

Magnificent!

Jason Kirkpatrick

Really fantastic!

Janet F

Sounds like unequivocal evidence that Dianna is a woman of indomitable spirit whose body, I'm convinced, will evince in the fullness of time. Maybe even sooner!โญ

Jean-Philippe Suter

Oh wow, I'm blown away by Dianna all over again. Thank you, Dianna, for sharing that, and my thanks to your Mom for providing the recording. I couldn't make out what you said before you fixed the microphone; did you say what pieces you would be perfroming? I'm especially curious about the piano piece, because I used to play too. I'm so sorry to here about your latest crash. Are your vitamin D levels being monitored, so they can be supplemented if need be? Judging from the few photos we've seen of where you spend your days, you don't get a lot of sunlight, from which to synthesize your own vitamin D, yet it's important for maintaining the immune system and preventing depression. Just a thought from someone else who's dealt with severe medical headwinds, and studied the piano and physics. I start a graduate class in Quantum Field Theory in a few days.

Nathan-Andrew

Holy moly! Did not expect her to be both a coloratura soprano and a trained pianist, in addition to being an exceptional science communicator! May she return to being her thrice extraordinary self soon.

Centralperk

Hold onto your light Dianna ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ we are all here for you during this marathon

Ashley Morillo

Brava!!! That was IMPRESSIVE!! Wish we could do more for her. Sending all the love under the sun๐Ÿ’•

Joanne K

What an effortless and natural talent! I can see the gift of stage confidence has been there since she was young. Thanks so much for sharing that with us!

Marcio Paduan Donadio

Wow! That's an unbelievable musical talent! Dianna is awesome.

Denise Nader

So talented and welcoming with her warmness! As in all her videos. May she soon recovers, we're all here wishing you the best.

Lynne Newberry

Wow such incredible musical talent!

Phil Stubblefield

๐Ÿ˜ฎ As has been said, I expected a pop song or perhaps a Broadway song... not Italian opera! Is there nothing this woman can't do?!? ๐Ÿ‘ Brava!

Daniel Welsh

Una Voce Poco Fa from Barber of Seville

Michael Lanier

Dianna is such a gifted young woman! Thanks to her for remembering her artistic passion, to her mom for locating the video, and to everyone else who was involved in posting it. It will be amazing when she is able to share all of her talents with the world again in the familiar exuberant love of life she conveys in her videos!

Jonathan Bradshaw

Wow, I've been to many operas and I am without a doubt completely blown away by that talent! Dianna is just full of wonderful surprises. I'm waiting for the day we get the next gift of her recovery :)

Joseph Murphy

Holy smackums!!! That was awesome!!! I don't think there's anything Dianna can't do if she wanted to.

Scott Reynolds

Wow! That's amazing!

Jessica M Kelsey

Honestly wish there was more we could do to help. She is in my thoughts and hopes that something is found to help her recover.

Brian Eddy

Wow! Mind blown!! What incredible talent, all around!

Steve Victory

I wish there was a way to volunteer to cover Dianna's sickness for a while... So she can feel healthier again. I bet there are hundreds of people that would sacrifice a day of feeling horrible in order to allow Dianna to Feel better for a bit, meanwhile the volunteer feels miserable for a day, but if there were enough volunteers to share the misery, it wouldn't be too horribly bad for anyone and Dianna could get her life back. I know it's not realistic, but it's just so incredibly unfair to Dianna.

Rick Bamford

๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ

Rick Byrd

She is a talented woman.

quietssstorm

What a treat! I enjoy opera and classical music. So excited to see a young Dianna wowing the crowd.

Paul Ljucovic

That was beautiful. When she started to sing I was taken aback as I was expecting something mainstream. Amazing voice. I pray that she recovers. I have two daughters that Iโ€™ve shared her videos with. Sheโ€™s an amazing role model.

Willy Kang

17 years agoโ€ฆ were she in Hawaii?๐Ÿค”

SeattleDan

"I'm going to sing a little song for you." ...proceeds to blow the roof off the auditorium. Outstanding. That talent wasn't apparent in her physics videos. ๐Ÿค”

Willy Kang

Wow! She can sing and play piano. Very impressive. ๐Ÿ‘ My niece should know Donna in the future. She plays violin and maybe some piano too, and she might be on the way into STEM subjects.

steve crandall

Amazing DIanna! I hope, we all hope, that you return to health and look forward to you plaguing too many people with visits!

R.J. Ehlert

She is an amazing polymath.

Margaret Hamilton

Wow - sheโ€™s a trained opera singer!! Who knew?! So awesome to listen to!

William Rodgers

Holy shit! Was thinking Karen Carpenter, Carley Simon, or Joni Mitchell, but you were belying it out like Ella Fitzgerald!

CobraPilot45

A beautiful, talented and super intelligent young woman, then and now!!! Looking forward to more like this when you are back up to speed!!!! Awesome performance ๐Ÿ˜ƒโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Kevin Darling

Impressive! She did not need the microphone.

Ken Hanson

Bel canto by the sound of it, Rossini or Bellini maybe? Lovely, simply charming... Bravo!

ื™ืื™ืจ ืงืจื™ืŸ

Oh, wow! Get well soon ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Richard Dickison

Wow!!! A real Renaissance person in our presence. Get well and get back to your Renaissanceness.

Chad Freeman

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Dana Latta

Wow.. I didn't expect that. โค๏ธ

Jonathan Tunik

WOW! I knew she had some interest in music, but I had no idea. Her singing: power, range, articulation, precision... this gives a whole new dimension to her wine glass breaking and singing into a tube videos. I hope she is able to listen to music during this long road to recovery.

Marvin Tran

Wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Sheโ€™s a great singer!!! ๐ŸŽถ

goroberts56 .

Of course she sings opera and plays the piano, from memory no less! She can do anything. So talented. Oh to be of a mind and spirit as hers.

Curtis Vickery

I fully expected her singing to be pleasant but, wow, talk about blowing away my expectations, she's so good!

Anne Smith

What a beautifully talented lady. Now I understand how Dianna shattered that crystal glass with her voice. Amazing!

MPotter

I knew Dianna was talented, but holy cow! Beautiful voice! Thank you so much for sharing that. Send her all our love!

Barry McKinnon

Wow. So much vocal control at a young age. Amazing

James Morehead

Amazing! My parents are both musicians and my Dad worked at the Chicago Lyric Opera for many years so I grew up around many beautiful voices like Dianna's! Can't wait for that voice to return fully recovered and healthy.

David Mueller

Diana, that was an incredible performance. The unexpected turn was when you started playing piano. I legit started clapping at the end and my wife looked at me like I was nuts. ETA: oh I didn't meant to use the word nuts - sorry about that.

Robert Oswin

I love this! So talented in so many ways.... get better Dianna, we miss you so much on Youtube!

Gregory Storkan

So I'm an opera singer and voice teacher and for the record it is *extremely* unusual to give this aria to a 17 year old. Impressive. It's odd how well music and the sciences go together - I know so many who do both. I myself initially intended to study astronomy and ended up choosing music when it became clear I didn't have time to double major for my scholarship. So cool to see, we're all thinking of her!

David Iverson

We've been hustled. The whole point of the wine-glass video was could a normal person do it? Diana's answer was yes, but now we find out that she doesn't have a normal-person singing voice.

B T

That's the Dianna we expect to see after a full recovery. Thank you for posting this!

Barrie May

Thanks so much for this. I love the fact that Diana is a musician as well. She is so talented and I agree what an amazing voice and pair of hands. What is the name and who is the composer of the beautiful piano piece. I have never heard it before. It is amazing how music and science often go together so well. I am convinced that music is critical for our brians' development.

William Garrison

That's impressive! Still, it's no "A Whole New Nut"...

Fernando

Amazing!! There is so much life in her, and I know that she can get through this! One day at a time!

Fred Davison

Dang!

Sarah Cieslinski

Brava, bella! Thank you for sharing with us! Did I hear birds tweeting in the background? ๐Ÿฆ

Micah Gin

What an absolutely wonderful voice! Seeing her at the piano makes me appreciate just how frustrating it must be for Dianna to struggle with even the day-to-day tasks. Huge hugs!

Matthew Haas

Wow, cool video! Multi-talented. (Is this Italian for a song about nuts?)

Louise Fowler

Talent through and through. Her suffering sucks.

Suzanne Strickland

Thank you Momma Cowern for sharing this gem with us.

quietssstorm

Pardon my ignorance, but what is meant by โ€œmentalโ€ pain?

Danny Jasper

This is so cool to see. The high notes โ™ฅ
